My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Keanu was born on October 30th, 2020. He was and still is a very curious pup! He loves to snuggle, play tug of war, fetch, go on walks, and try to catch the stream from the water hose and bathtub. He is very protective of his family and will look to you for approval as to if a stranger walking by is nothing to worry about.

While his current family loves him dearly, they have a one year old and another one on the way. While Keanu is good with dogs (small, medium, large, male/female) and people, he sometimes does not know his own strength or how to contain his energy. He would be better around older kids (10 or older) rather than young children. He means well, it is just he is a bit much around little ones. He also has a lot of energy and needs to go on walks and run around a large play area for extended periods. With kids in the mix, it has become harder to give him the attention he deserves.

He is kennel trained and house broken. He does require a slow feeder because he eats way too fast. Considering he is a Bull Terrier, he does have the classic skin issues. He is allergic to grass, so he will require a good wipe down if he is ever rolling around in it too much. We have him on apoquel 16mg to control his allergies. A quantity of 30 runs about $83 from Chewy and would cost a lot more from a veterinary clinic. The 30 pills are broken in half, so it will last two months before you need to refill.

He also has some digestive issues, so he is not able to eat Ol' Roy, Pedigree, or Puppy Chow without having digestive upsets (runny stool, vomiting). He does well on the Purina One Large Breed brand. He eats about 2 and a half cups a day so a 40lb bag (about $65) can last nearly two months. I'm sure he could readjust to another brand, but it would have to be something like blue buffalo or Iams.

He can be a very high maintenance dog, but he is worth it. The love and energy he exudes is wonderful. His family is sad to have to rehome him, but he deserves to have the best possible home. He would do well with the following: someone single with a very active lifestyle; a couple with no children; a couple with older children. He would likely not do well in an apartment, unless of course he is able to go to a nearby dog park/walk daily. He would do best with a yard where he can run freely. Keep an eye on him, though! He tends to overexert himself. He can be loose as long as someone is home. He is kenneled when we are not home as he gets a little curious when no one is around and can also get separation anxiety. His kennel is his safe zone.

We hope you will consider bringing Keanu into your home!

Keanu is participating in The Love Pit's iRehome program, so ongoing care and custody are provided by their foster. All behavior and medical information is provided by their caretaker, and TLP encourages all adopters to verify the information with their caretaker prior to adoption.

Additional adoption info

Adopting from The Love Pit means gaining a family member. It means gaining a network of pit bull advocates, ready to support you and provide you with all of the resources we can. Most importantly, adopting from The Love Pit saves lives. When you adopt, you're saving the life of your own dog, opening space in their foster home for another shelter dog in need, and creating space in the shelter kennel for a dog whose life would have otherwise been on the line. Your thanks for all the good you've done? Lots of love and pit bull kisses to enjoy for years to come.

Go meet their pets

We have monthly adoption events at different locations in Dallas and Fort Worth which are announced on our social media pages and will also be posted on our website.

We will also set up an appointment with you to meet the dog of your choosing.
