Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Our beautiful Izzy couldn't be sweeter (once comfortable in her environment) no matter how hard she may try. Izzy is a 2 year old Maltese / Lhasa Apso mix (as recognized by Texas veterinarians)..all we know for certain is that this girl is irresistible and just waiting to be the love of someone's life.
Fluffy smaller size dogs have grown in popularity over the past few years. It makes perfect sense in that they're known for their loving temperaments, cottony-soft, non-shedding coats and sweet personalities. Farfel's makes an effort to rescue as many of these small Terriers as possible with the confidence they will be sweet and loving family members. Izzy has all these wonderful traits and is described by her Texas foster as an absolute love bug.
Izzy has had a challenging period of time but is now safe and sound never to be cold or hungry again. But with it all, Izzy doesn't hold a grudge and desires only to be the best companion possible. Since Izzy is still a young girl she's somewhat of a blank slate open to all possibilities if treated kindly and with respect.
Group training classes with her family and a positive reinforcement trainer would truly serve both Izzy and her family (as it does every dog and their people). Together they will learn the skills to have Izzy become a companion that is well-behaved (she's pretty close right now) in almost all situation. It also creates strong bonds of love and respect between dog and family.
Izzy, while initially a bit shy due to all the changes in her life, tends to be a happy-go-lucky girl who loves life and responds so well to love and time spent together (hugs and kisses are absolutely awesome), and of course some great treats are always a wonderful option. Izzy gets very attached to those she loves and if given a bit of time and patience, will be on her way to her favorite people's lap for belly rubs and kind words.
Izzy loves to come along (and is very portable at just 16 lbs) for a fun hike on a gorgeous Colorado trail or just socializing at home, social Izzy would love to be there as Companion #1. She has such a pleasant personality and is portable enough to fit in just about anywhere.
We envision Izzy as an only-dog or with a gentle, respectful canine companion. We feel she might be very happy to get all the attention for the first time in her life, or might enjoy sharing backyard fun and quiet moments with a gentle doggie playmate.
Izzy wouldn't be happy spending long hours alone. She is far too people-oriented to be happy with that arrangement. A retiree or a younger person who works from a home-based office would be a great choice for Izzy. She would love the periodic belly rubs and loving over the course of the day. Being a young dog, she'd also learn that she's always loved and cared for. This is a lesson that results in a happy and confident adult dog.
Izzy has a gorgeous non-shedding coat that's currently shelter-sad. Her hair was so matted that there was no choice but to shave her to allow a healthy and gorgeous new coat to emerge. Izzy will therefore require a lifelong commitment to periodic grooming (approximately ever 8 - 10 weeks) and excellent nutrition, A five star food and daily salmon oil supplement will bring Izzy's coat back to the cottony-soft and luxurious coat that is consistent with her breed mix.
Izzy has been fully vetted and vaccinated to support Farfel's commitment to adopting out only healthy dogs. She has also been spayed to further our fight to end the overpopulation challenge in the canine community.
Izzy will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Saturday 8/10/2024. If interested in this very sweet and loving girl, please fill out an application at http://farfels.com/farfels-rescue/adoption-form/ completely and submit.
**PLEASE NOTE** If you're truly interested in adopting Izzy, please be sure to fill out our Farfel's Rescue adoption application found at the link above or at farfels.com. Adoption site applications such as Petfinder and Adoptapet don't provide enough information and therefore aren't useful. Our Farfel's application is the only initial tool that we have to determine a great match for this very deserving dog. We're sorry, but in many cases, we're unable to get back to those that don't submit our Farfel's Rescue adoption application. Thanks very much for choosing rescue.
