My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Bailey
Bailey is a gorgeous little dog. Like so many, she’s had a rough life. Her owner used to chase her and scare her into hiding. Bailey was terrified of him. Thankfully, she was surrendered to our shelter where we are helping her decompress, showing her only love and kindness. Bailey is responding so well to our world and is just the most wonderful little lovebug.
Bailey looks to be a chi/Italian greyhound mix. She has a pretty black and white coat, intelligent eyes, long legs and a happy prance. She weighs 17 lbs. She is thought to be two-three years old. Bailey has a wonderful demeanor. She is calm, gentle, out-going, friendly, affectionate, and well-mannered. After all she’s been through, she LOVES people, she likes dogs and doesn’t know what to think about cats lol! She’s curious about them, moving slowly to check them out and then shies away and busies herself elsewhere. Bailey loves jumping in a lap. She loves to be picked up and cuddled and then she’s off to explore her surroundings. She welcomes attention and just wags and wags her tail in bliss and happiness. Bailey loves giving little doggie kisses. She wants you to know how happy she is to feel safe and protected.
She walks easily on a leash and enjoys an easy stroll. Bailey was known to run if given the chance. Letting her out in an enclosed area is recommended or keeping her on a leash at all times when outside. Our guess is that Bailey was scared of her owner and would run away when she could. Bailey lived inside, but she is not house-trained. We don’t think her owner spent much time working with her, so with consistency she would probably learn pretty quickly. As a small dog, it’s usually just a matter of taking them out more often than a bigger pup to let them do their business. Bailey is a precious little girl who will add so much joy to your world. She is a gem who has never had the chance to shine, but she’s ready to take your world and heart by storm.
If interested in Bailey, please submit a dog application online at www.charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org Please call our shelter at 706-865-4135 or email us at smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net to let us know to be on the lookout. All adopters must complete an approval process which involves a reference check with current/recent vet and a brief home visit if located in the immediate area. We do permit out of state adoptions. Adopters MUST come to the shelter to transport their new family member home. We do not ship nor do we transport them to their new homes. Adoption policies and application procedures are detailed at the shelter website: http://charlessmithgallhumanesociety.org/ under tab All Adoptable Animals.

Charles Smithgall Humane Society (CSHS) is a No kill shelter. Animals in our care remain safe with us until adopted. Resident animals are either owner relinquished rescued from area Animal Controls or high kill shelters. The facility usually is operating at capacity with a list of animals waiting for space to open.

Additional adoption info

Our adoption process begins with the submission of an application which is used to gather information and initiate conversation with the adopting person/family. The form also assists us with assessing the environment for suitability and safety in the placement of our residents. The application is the first step in the approval process, followed by veterinarian reference check, landlord approval confirmation if relevant and a home visit which may be done physically or virtually depending on the distance from the shelter. The approval process can be initiated either before or after a visit to the shelter to visit our residents. The application for dogs is located on our Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/smithgallhumanesociety/photos/a.984873858223547.1073741865.548822128495391/1271213192922944/?type=3&theater . For cat application, go to: https://www.facebook.com/smithgallhumanesociety/photos/a.984873858223547.1073741865.548822128495391/1271223856255211/?type=3&theater . The forms will be automated for online submission through a new website currently under construction with an anticipated launch date of no later than Nov 2016. Requirements for adoption are specific to the needs of the animal in addition to standard checks for safety issues. Adopters must come to the shelter once approved to take their adopted pet home. We do not ship nor do we transport. Submitting the form is neither a guarantee of adoption nor an entitlement to "first come, first served" in the selection process of safely and appropriately placing our residents. Decision to approve/not approve an adopter(s) is based on the needs of the dog, not the needs of the adopter. The application should be downloaded before printing. The completed form can be returned through Facebook Messages, emailing to: smithgallhumanesociety@windstream.net or delivery to the shelter. The process usually takes 1 to 3 business days but can be slowed by not completing all of the questions, difficulty in reaching people relevant to approval and scheduling a home visit. Our residents must be returned to us at any point in time if the adoption is no longer suitable/safe for the pet or circumstances have changed to where a new home is needed. A contract must be signed to complete the adoption process. Standard fees for dogs are $100 and for cats $85. Some fees are subsidized in various amounts as low as $25 (minimum allowed subsidized fee) for dogs and $20 (minimum allowed subsidized fee) for cats . All of our animals are spay/neutered, have age appropriate vaccines and are free of internal parasites. Dogs are tested for heart worms and put on monthly prevention. Cats are tested for FIV/FeLV.

More about this shelter

Charles Smithgall Humane Society (est 1994) is a small no-kill shelter which utilizes our adoption center, social media and offsite events to seek safe and appropriate homes for our residents. Our mission is to provide safe sanctuary and all standard preventive care procedures and veterinary services to the dogs and cats of our local communities Intakes are primarily owner relinquishments with some animals accepted from animal control when space is available. All potential adopters must be evaluated through our approval process. We are funded 100% by donations and fundraising events. With the exception of 2 kennel managers, our operations are totally managed with volunteers. We are always in need of donations and volunteers. We appreciate the sharing of our pets on social media as most of our adoptions have resulted through the resources of the internet.
