Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Due to the large number of applications we have received for Emma
Jane already, we are not currently accepting new ones until we have a
chance to process the existing ones. If you have already submitted an
application, we will be in touch sometime in the next week or so.
Emma is a 1 ½ yr old spayed Shih Tzu/Bichon Frise mix. She weighs approximately 10lbs. She will have a wavy/curly coat as it grows out. She will require regular brushing, grooming and vet care for the next 10+ years.
Emma was given to me as an owner surrender and PGSPCA then took her into rescue. Her previous owner did not have time for her and she was “too active” for them. She had not been vetted beyond her initial shots and was completely matted. Thankfully a friend of mine was able to shave her within a couple of days and it made her feel so much better! She will need to be groomed on a consistent basis (every 6-8 weeks). She is now fully vetted.
She lives with 4 other dogs ranging in age from 5-11. She gets along well with all of them, especially the beagle! They are obsessed with each other!! They love to run around the backyard, wrestle and share their toys with no issue. She gets the zoomies daily and will need to be able to run and get her energy out. I am not sure about cats (although she was non-reactive to the feral cats outside). She has only met kids once while on a walk but was completely fine with them.
Emma is ALL puppy, so make sure you are prepared for those antics! She is super friendly and doles out kisses frequently! Most mornings and every time you come home, she greets you with lots of squeals and wiggles and demands to be picked up and cuddled on. She is a bit of an attention hog but that’s only because she has so much love to give. You may try to resist her, but her smile and joy will win you over and next thing you know she will be in your arms!! She has free reign of the home and is mostly non-destructive, maybe shredding some paper here and there if it’s in her reach. She currently is only left alone for about 6 hours a day.
I have not seen any food aggression from her but she will steal food from another dog if it is on the floor or left in their bowl. Because of this, I feed her in a closed room. She will also steal food from you if you leave it unattended! She doesn’t know any commands but is food motivated so it would probably be easy to train her. She will go to the bathroom outside but is not house-trained yet. She runs back inside quickly and then I find special surprises in the house, ugh. She will need someone that has patience and will continue to work with her and teach her the proper areas to go potty by using positive training methods. She sleeps in my bed at night along with the rest of the dogs and sleeps through the night! I have not crated her since I’ve had her.
She walks great on leash and is non-reactive to other dogs or animals. She rides well in the car and is very social so she would be easy to take on adventures! I think she would prefer to have another dog with medium/high energy to play with. And I think she will most likely do well with children over the age of 6 (just because she’s a little jumpy trying to get attention). A fenced-in yard would be preferable so she can run and get her zoomies out and then she will sleep soundly through the night. She makes us laugh every single day and is one of the most lovable dogs I’ve ever seen. She is a special dog that will make a family happy for years to come!
