Athena I was one year old when my owner adopted me and named me after the goddess of wisdom. Now, four years later, he has surrendered me to the HSHC as `unwanted.` I prefer the first name! I am 5-years-old and a lovely short-haired Tabby with a white bib and paws. I am a rather sensitive kitty who, when stressed, can develop an inflammation in my bladder. Compared with their close ancestor, the African wild cat, domestic cats often live in exceptionally confined spaces with little to occupy their time and minds. This lack of `environmental enrichment` can cause significant stress. Simple measures may help, such as— 1.Providing me regular playtimes with you. This will not only keep me physically active but also mentally stimulated, reducing my stress levels and keeping me healthy. 2.Rotating my toys or replacing them with new ones keeps me engaged and prevents boredom. Interactive toys, such as puzzle feeders or feather wands, are particularly beneficial for me. 3.Give me various places to relax in the home, both high and low. 4.Having at least two litterboxes that are regularly cleaned is not just for my comfort, it`s also for my health. It reduces the risk of stress-related urinary issues and ensures that I always have a clean place to do my business. 5.By providing me with my own bowls for food and water, you can help reduce my stress.
I crave love and attention, and if you are willing to help me overcome my anxiety, I will be a terrific addition to your life. Your love and care will be deeply appreciated and will make a world of difference to me. 8-27-24

With an open admission policy, a No-Kill philosophy, and more than 3,100 animals crossing our threshold each year, we have still maintained a 98% placement rate over the last 3 years.
This is an amazing feat for any organization…let alone one that takes in some of the most abused, injured and seriously ill animals imaginable.
