My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Name: Elijah
Nicknames: E. Big Dog. Gremlin.
Sex: Male
Breed: Pit Bull/Potbelly Pix mix
Age: ~4 years
Weight: ~60 lbs.
Before OMD: Found as a stray (underweight with skin infections resulting in itchy, crusty skin and hair loss) and completed his stray hold at the city shelter. No one came for him unfortunately and we happily welcomed him into rescue. He’s since cleared his upper respiratory infection (that he picked up at the shelter) and his skin has healed beautifully.
Descriptors: Breed ambassador. Classic good boy; sweet, affectionate, protective, and just the perfect amount of derpy.
Energy level: Moderate. Enjoys walks and being active in the yard just as much as chilling on the couch with a chew toy.
Velcro level: Moderate to above average; he is content to entertain himself with a chew toy and play with other dogs but will also lay at your feet while you do dishes. He will follow you room to room but doesn’t get underfoot. Don’t plan on going to the bathroom or showering alone though, he will be there running point to guard and ensure you are not disturbed.
Moonlights as: Summer Olympic athlete - our boy is a double gold medalist for (counter) surfing and (dumpster) diving. He also will be your personal protective detail.
Also: Esteemed president of the Clean Plate Club. He will clean his plate, your plate and the plates of his canine (and feline) siblings if given the opportunity.
His favorite things: A good head pet and back scratching. Toys (Nyla bones, rope toys, kongs). Treats (beefy liver treats, bacon treats, salami...he enjoys it all). Cuddles.
Guilty of: Destroying stuffies. Chewing shoes. Making pig-like snorting noises when he eats. Being a little gassy.
What makes us laugh: When he and his Doxie foster sibling awkwardly chase each other around. His look of innocence when you catch him standing tall to scope out what’s on the counter. His inability to jump on the couch without missing at least once.
Not to brag, but: He's great on walks and on the leash. Not dog reactive. Will eat ALL the food, but hasn't resource guarded. Doesn’t bark unless there is a human stranger approaching at home, in which case he barks but follows his people’s lead and warms up. Isn’t jumpy.
Knows: Sit. Leave it.
Dogs: Gets along with dogs of all sizes and plays well.
Cats: Big fan. Does not chase, is respectful of their space and has been caught being groomed by and cuddling with a cat in his foster home.
Kids: Older dog savvy kids would be a great fit. He might knock younger kids over.
House-trained: Great in the house, minimal accidents during the adjustment period at his foster and then none since.
Crate-trained: Great in the kennel, will run in and lay down when he has a routine down.

Elijah is vaccinated, heartworm negative and will be neutered shortly. He is available to residents of CT and IL and their surrounding states. If you are interested in adopting, please complete an application from omdrescue.org

Additional adoption info

One More Dog Rescue (OMD), formerly Ruff Start Happy Tails, requires all potential adopters to fill out an adoption application and agree to a home visit prior to any adoption. Once the application is approved, a meet and greet will be scheduled between the potential adopter (s) and the dog.

When a dog is adopted through One More Dog, an adoption contract must be signed, and we ask that a donation in the amount of $500 ($350 for seniors) be made at the time of adoption to help our rescue cover a portion of the costs we incur through pull fees, vetting, and training.

Applications can be found here: http://www.omdrescue.org/adoptapp.html
*We will adopt to approved applicants (who are able to meet & adopt in person) who live in CT and the surrounding areas: New England, New York, and New Jersey.
