Introducing Shire, a beautiful 3 1/2-month-old, German Shepherd X Husky, girl. Shire was rescued in Manitoba and came to us rough shape. She was quite underweight and had skin issues with patchy fur. Shire has received veterinary care and has been eating a healthy diet and has blossomed into quite a pretty little girl. She has soft black and tan coloured fur and looks like she is wearing black liner around her eyes. Shire gets compliments wherever she goes. Shire is quite dainty now, but she will likely grow to be a large sized dog.
Shire is being fostered in a home with older children and she absolutely loves them. Now that she feels better, she is full of energy and loves to follow the kids wherever they go. True to her Shepherd roots, Shire’s favorite place to be is right beside her people, watching over everything.
She is full of snuggles and is a very, very affectionate dog. She loves to sit beside you on the couch and if she had her way, she would sleep on top of your chest. Shire sits with the kids in her foster home while they read and craft and watches their every move. When they are outside, she chases along behind them. Where they go, she goes. The kids have taught Shire how to play tag with them. She chases them and when she catches them, they turn around and chase her. She is also quite proficient at playing hide a seek with them. Shire would be a good pup for a family with children over 8yrs of age.
Shire is being fostered with two dog savvy cats and she is very respectful of them. She has learned to avoid the cranky cat and give him space. She tries to play with the friendly cat and she needs to be reminded to be gentle when she gets too excited with him.
Shire is also being raised with two older foster dogs. She has been very respectful of their boundaries which is rare for a dog her age. When she grows up, Shire is definitely going to be the leader of any pack that she joins. She has a strong and confident personality and she does not appear to be fearful of anything to date. She would do great with other dogs in the home, but those dogs would need to be male; she needs to be the only female dog in the home. She could also get on board with being the only dog in the home and getting all of your attention.
Shire is crate trained and is put into her crate at night and during the day when we are unable to supervise her. She is still quite young and needs a family that is committed to watching her closely to ensure that she doesn’t get into anything that could harm her while she is exploring her surroundings. Shire is young and is teething. She needs to be reminded not you use her mouth when she is playing.
Shire has learned to walk on a leash and loves her outside time. She takes her leash into her mouth and trots along beside you, walking herself. She is an athletic dog with lots of energy so she would do well with an active family who are willing to bring her on their adventures.
Shire goes on regular car rides with her family, and she is excellent in the car. She is calm and usually just snuggles up to someone and falls asleep very quickly or enjoys looking at what’s outside the window. She has spent some time at the cottage, and she isn’t quite sure about jumping into the water yet. She stands at the shore with her feet in the water and watches her foster family like a hawk while they swim. She watches the other dogs swim, but she hasn’t shown any interest in going in yet herself.
Shire is very smart and trainable. She learned her name very quickly. She picked up on basic commands and she is very eager to please. She is always watching her people looking for guidance. With proper training, she has the potential to be such a great family dog. We are looking for a family for Shire that will commit to advanced levels of training for her; she is far too smart and too confident of a dog to only do the basics. We want her to live her best life and be her best self and so a family dedicated to training her to advanced levels, socializing her properly and committing to the work and time of a puppy, which is a lot in that first year, is essential.
Shire has so much going for her and she is going to make a great companion and family dog for a lucky family. Her best match would be with an active person or family who wants an intelligent and loyal pup to bring along on their adventures.
