My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Zoe is a 1yr old Belgian Malinois that was initially owner surrendered to Category 5 K9 as a potential search dog. Unfortunately Zoe does not have the confidence and nerve strength required to be a search dog and is now looking for an active pet home. Zoe is the definition of a velcro dog and is nervous when around new people and pets. She takes time to warm up but is not aggressive.

When at home with the people she knows, Zoe is high energy and shows a lot of toy drive. When out in public around strange people and things she flattens out and stays very close to the people she knows. Zoe can be reactive toward strange dogs but is not actually dog aggressive. She would love a home where she gets to play fetch and goes on a walk in the neighborhood she is familiar with.

Zoe's original owners let her be loose in the house and she was not destructive if she had appropriate toys, but she will steal food off the counter. Zoe doesn't love being crated but once she's settled in she does not try to escape and will sleep through the night in a crate.

Meet the Pet

If you are local. Out of state adopters do not have to meet the dog in advance though we high recommend you do.

Additional adoption info

Adoption fees vary per dog. Out-of-state adoption is allowed, transport costs are the adopters responsibility.

Note: All of the Category 5 K9 washouts are young adult dogs and tend to be confident and high energy. We highly recommend a meet-and-greet prior to adoption.

More about this rescue

Category 5 K9 works with shelters, rescues, and owners to identify dogs that have the potential to become working canines. We work with these dogs to find a job they will excel at, whether that is search and rescue, narcotics detection, or service work. Occasionally we will pull a dog that after evaluation does not appear to have what it takes either physically or environmentally for the programs we work with. These dogs are made available for adoption to pet and sport homes.
