My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Bean, aptly named at a gargantuan 5.5lbs. This tiny senior lady (8-10 years) appreciates a slower pace of life in her golden years. She considers herself a professional lap-sitter and if a lap isn’t available, she’ll plop herself down in the nearest sunbeam and happily rest her eyes for a little bit. While her exercise needs aren’t much as a senior, she does enjoy taking a walk here and there, always leading the way with gusto (also does well riding along in sling carrier for longer walks), and will run around with a stuffy in her mouth in small bursts of energy! She would appreciate a calmer household, with housemates that share her gentle demeanor. Like many chihuahuas, she knows what she likes and has no problem filing any complaints with management when something is amiss (like, you’re not paying enough attention to her)! She currently lives with cats peacefully, and can coexist with other dogs that respect her space. Bean isn’t looking for more canine playmates at this stage in life, but rather, searching for a chill home as a companion to her person. She is potty pad trained and enjoys having a fenced yard to explore. Bean is up to date on vaccinations and preventatives, spayed and microchipped and her adoption fee is $175.

Home Check

Additional adoption info

1. The first step is completing our application at www.rescueofhope.com.

2. If your application is approved, you will be contacted to schedule a home visit interview. We will bring the dog over for a visit and conduct and interview with you.

3. Then we will both take a day to consider whether it is the right home for the dog.

4. If everyone is in agreement, the adoption will take place and you will sign an adoption contract and commit to giving our rescue dog a forever home.

We are a non-profit organization. Our adoption fees are considered a donation to the rescue and they range from $150-$350. Our fees help us cover our dog's vet care, food, supplies and other expenses to keep the rescue running. All dogs must be spayed/neutered, micro-chipped, tested for heartworms, vaccinated and wormed as appropriate for age and checked for fleas prior to or within 30 days of adoption.

Note: There are no refunds on adoption fees. Adoption fees are considered a donation to the rescue and are tax decuctible.

More about this rescue

Hearts of Hope's mission is to save homeless unwanted dogs. Pet overpopulation is a global crisis. Our local animal shelters are full of wonderful dogs that just need more time and help finding the right home. Many of our dogs come from these local kill shelters and others come from urgent rescue situations spanning as far as Beirut, Lebanon. Hearts of Hope strives to help as many dogs as possible. If we are able, we will help. We know we can't save them all, but it matters to the ones we can save.

Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dog rescue located in Grand Rapids, MI and Midland,MI. It was founded by Director, Janelle McFarlane November 23, 2011. Our rescue dogs are provided with the best possible vet care, a safe place to stay and the love they deserve. We do not have a shelter facility. Our volunteer foster homes take these wonderful dogs into their homes until we find their forever families. Our organization is devoted to helping dogs in need and works diligently to find them loving forever homes where they can happily live out the rest of their lives.
