My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Psst! Hi there! I’m Nova, which means “new beginning” in Latin. I’m a bit shy until I get to know you, so let’s chat quietly a bit while I get to know you!

I am purebred BC, 1.5 years old, weigh 45 pounds, have been neutered and I am 99% potty trained, 100% crate trained and I walk nicely on leash. How did a nice dog like me end up in rescue? Well, I’m one of the lucky ones, of course!

I was born on a very busy, very loud, livestock working ranch with lots of other border collies. My first few weeks of life were a little difficult as I got burned by a heat lamp down the center of my face and almost drowned in a tub of water. I still have a bright red scar on my head from the burn that is flaky and a bit tender at times. My foster mom has been rubbing coconut oil on it to keep the scar soft and hopefully regrow some fur. I also got bit by another dog through the fence right on my lip and jaw, so I have a scar there too! Ouch! Some people say the scars are a little scary, but please look past that as I am THE SWEETEST, best boy in the world! My foster mom tells me this every day.

Even though I come from some fancy Border Collie bloodline, sometimes DNA just does weird things and I have hip dysplasia. It doesn’t really impact me right now, except I have the cutest butt wiggle and swishy tail as I walk and it does not stop me from running SUPER DUPER fast! But know that one day, It might cause me to have arthritis as I get older. That’s why my foster mom gives me some super yummy “vitamin” treats to help my joints stay strong.

My perfect home would be with a family that is understanding of my shyness and can help me not be such a scaredy-cat with loud noises. I’ve come a long way, but sudden loud noises still make me run & hide! Speaking of cats, I am cat friendly and can often be found napping with one of the kitties in my foster home. I love people of all ages, good with kids, and I definitely need a dog-brother or sister. I would also love a home that gives me nice warm, calm bubble baths because hoses with sprayers on the end really scare me. Speaking of water – I actually REALLY love splashing in the doggy pool my foster dad got for me and the pond at the park is amazing. The stinkier, the better in my book!

I also would really love a home with lots of toys. Did you know that I had NEVER had a toy or treats before coming into rescue? I didn’t even know how to eat a piece of chicken! Crazy, right?! It took me a few weeks of watching my foster brother and sisters eating treats and playing with toys to figure out what to do, but now I have got it down. Get new toy, kill the squeaker, remove stuffing. I’m a pro now!

I have the best manners – I know to sit, lay down and stay. I never jump on people. I know how to take treats with a soft mouth. I am a super good foot warmer and if you get lonely in the bathroom, I will totally go with you! I know not to bark in the house, but when I am outside, I do like to protect my family and will bark at deer, cars, or other critters that walk by the house.

Everyone who meets me says I am such a cool dog and that I am so handsome and sweet. Does that sound perfect to you? If so, please consider completing an application today!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Once we have your application we will begin our screening and matching process so we can help find you a perfect match.

All Applicants are interviewed, reference checks and a home visit completed.

Once approved and you have met a dog that you would like to adopt, an adoption contract will be completed and an adoption donation of $300.00 requested to complete the adoption process.

BCR&R is totally dependent on our volunteers and foster homes, most of whom have full time careers and commitments outside of BCR&R. As a result, we work with potential adoptive families in the evenings and weekends.

More about this rescue

Border Collie Rescue & Rehab (BCR&R) is a network of volunteers and foster homes dedicated to helping save Border Collies, Border Collie mixes and other similar herding breeds.

The dogs in our program have come from shelters and the streets and we bring them into our homes and provide them with the training and love necessary to help them become valued members of a family. We call it our Rescue & Rehab Program.

All dogs are provided with necessary veterinary care and are microchipped. The dogs in our program will live with us as part of our families for a minimum of 3 to 4 weeks for evaluation and training in addition to ensuring overall health.
