My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

If eyes are the window to the soul, then Tommy's soul must be very deep and rich, with his captivating green eyes! That is statement of his history. Tommy was adopted as a kitten in 2017 and returned to us this year. His household had changed, new pets were added and it was no longer a good environment for Tommy.

The change was very confusing and frightening for Tommy, especially after such a long time with his prior family. It took Tommy a month of one-on-one interaction with his foster mom to transform his fear response of hisses and growls into soft meows and build his trust to the point of seeking out positive interaction on this own. His foster mom rejoiced the day he left his safe space on his own and laid down next to her to enjoy some body rubs! She had clearly won his trust.

Now Tommy’s first love is not treats, food or toys. He just loves to be loved. He is content to lay by his foster mom for as long as she will rub his body.

There are still things that frighten him. He is beginning to get used to new people visiting him. Frightening things will still bring out hisses, but Tommy is very gentle. It is never more than a hiss. And once your hand touches him and you begin gently rubbing his face, he leans into the touch and becomes butter.

Tommy will do best in a quiet and stable home with no other animals or children. His adopter must be an experienced cat person who is patient and very understanding. It is crucial to allow Tommy the time and space he requires to acclimate to his new environment.

After working with Tommy, his foster mom is confident that in the right environment with the right person he will blossom as he has done with her. He is a special cat with lots of love to offer as a companion.

Adoption fee is a minimum $85 per cat donation to Feral Fixers. All cats are up to date on shots, microchipped, dewormed, fixed, and FeLV/FIV negative. Discounted adoption fee if two cats are adopted together, $150 for a pair. Brief screening questionnaire and contract apply! More about this rescue

Feral Fixers is dedicated to the Trap, Neuter & Return (TNR) of feral cats within DuPage county. As part of our mission, we also rescue friendly cats and kittens that have been abandoned outside. We socialize and provide medical care to these kitties in our foster homes, and then make them available for adoption.
