My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hugo

Hugo is a Male Tiger and White DSH
DOB: May 15th, 2024
Adoption fee: $100.00

I am your typical kitten; I like to get into things and have fun! But after all the fun a good long nap is something that I enjoy! I may be a bit shy at first but once I am comfortable, I will show you my big personality. I like playing with toys and running around with my siblings. I can be very curious about new things. I am cuddly and sweet; I do seek attention and really enjoy pets and lovings. I am quite goofy and silly; I will be sure to make you laugh. I am often told how cute I am! I have a big personality and I will be happy to show it to you when I am comfortable. I am super sweet and gentle, but I am still a kitten who is learning. I’m a pretty easy-going boy, happy go lucky.

I would do good in a home with another cat that is looking for a friend and playmate. I would do okay in a home with a cat friendly dog with a proper and slow introduction. I should do okay in a home with older children who are respectful of my boundaries. I don’t mind being held; I will let you know when I am ready for my space

More about this shelter

About Us:
We are the area's nonprofit advocate, sanctuary and source for companion animals since 1887.

Our Mission:
-to protect animals from suffering and cruelty
-to provide safe and responsible care for unwanted or abused companion animals
-to enhance the lives of animals and people through education, adoption, and foster care.

We believe in second chances at the Humane Society of South Central Michigan. Our service area includes all of Calhoun County and parts of Kalamazoo, Barry and Branch counties. We keep animals as long as it takes to find a good home for adoption once the animal passes temperament testing and is checked for good health. The Watkins Road shelter cares for up to 100 animals a day, and adopts out more than 500 animals a year. Countless area residents use the Society’s animal care, adoption and education programs each year. The Humane Society is overseen by a board of directors. We do not receive any government or tax dollars, or national humane organization funding. Our services are made possible by people in our community who care about homeless cats and dogs - people like you!

The Humane Society of South Central Michigan values:
-The ethical and humane treatment of animals
-Its role as a shelter for animals that suffer from pain, fear, and neglect
-Community accountability for the welfare of its animals
-Responsible stewardship of our resources
-Community involvement to achieve our goals
-Education about responsible pet ownership
-The joy of sharing a life with animal companions
