My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Bella is a 4lb Chihuahua/Italian Greyhound mix with the most beautiful eyes who has been in rescue for quite some time.  Bella came from an extremely abusive home and has needed some time to recover and learn how to trust humans again.  She is an adorable little dog without a mean bone in her body.  It took a while for us to see Bellas's personality, but she is a funny, quirky girl who just wants to be loved for who she is.  She lives in her own little world and seems happy to do so.  Bella is very easy going and does her own thing for the most part.  She is not much for toys or treats but this girl loves her blankets!  She will bury herself under them all day and night, so much so that sometimes you forget she’s there.

Bella loves other dogs and although not required another small dog in her new home would help her continue to heal.  Bella loves her person once she gets to know them, she loves to give kisses and snuggle on the couch under blankets with you.  Although she has come very far in rescue she is still sometimes nervous about being picked up and the fast movements of children scare her.  We would prefer her to live in a quieter, adult only home.

Bella does well in a crate for short periods, but if left alone for longer, she will use her crate/bed as a bathroom. She is also not pad trained and has frequent accidents in the house. She will sometimes go to the bathroom outside if you take her, but it is really hit or miss with her. She will need someone patient and understanding to continue working with her.

Bella is not leash trained, although we think she can be at some point. For now, though, she will need a secure fence or pen for outside. She does enjoy sitting outside in the sun with her foster mom and the other dogs. Bella doesn’t really know how to play with other dogs, but if dogs are playing, she will bounce around them and bark in a playful manner.

Bella is very loved within the rescue and we want her to have a very special home with someone who understands the breed and how she was treated before.  Bella is loving in her own way and good company.  We have truly enjoyed watching her blossom into the dog she is today and we look forward to her finally getting her happy ever after.

Bella is spayed, up to date with vaccines, microchipped, flea/worm treated and tested neg. for heartworm.  Her adoption fee is $450

Please go to our website and read about the dog there as well as all pertinent info. for adopting this dog. IF THERE IS INFORMATION NOT INCLUDED IN THE DOGS PROFILE THAT IS NECESSARY FOR YOU TO MAKE A DECISION AS TO WHETHER ,,,GENERALLY SPEAKING,,,,THIS DOG IS A GOOD FIT FOR YOUR FAMILY, THEN PLEASE GO AHEAD AND EMAIL WITH THAT SPECIFIC QUESTION. We will be happy to answer questions not already covered in the thorough amount of info already printed on our website. If you feel that this dog is worth considering as a family member, please submit an application and a volunteer will contact you asap.

We are all volunteers with jobs and families and probably more dogs than you, so please understand that we are very busy. We are not able to keep up with the constant general questions and phone call requests that, with a little time and reading on your part, is already included on our website. Replying to all emails makes it very difficult to do our jobs as well as we would like.
All dogs who have adoptions PENDING, will have that info printed right next to their name. Having a pending adoption does not make it a done deal, it means that we are at the home visit/meet and greet phase of the adoption and it could go one way or another so feel free to check back on the status of the dog in question.
We do not have a facility for you to come and visit our dogs. They are in our homes, sleeping in our beds and lounging on our sofa. We value our privacy and do not open our homes to visitors wanting to meet "all the dogs".
Thank you for your interest in our wonderful Pixie Mamas pooches. Without you adopters we could not continue to do what we do. We appreciate your time and effort as well ,to comply with what is needed for us to keep Pixie Mamas Rescue going with as little stress and extra time as necessary.
Our adoption fees start at $200, some highly adoptable dogs are more and others are less - that will be stated in their profiles.
Good luck in finding the right dog for your family.

More about this rescue

Pixie Mamas Rescue (PMR) is a group of volunteer dog lovers whose mission is to rescue, provide sanctuary, and ultimately to re-home abandoned, stray and neglected dogs. We also assist dogs who, because of extenuating circumstances, are unable to remain in their homes. We aid in the rescue of small breed dogs. We are located in Western New York.
All PMR dogs are housed in foster homes where they are provided with an enormous amount of love and any medical attention that may be required to insure that they are in good health before adoption. They are all spayed or neutered and brought up-to-date on shots before being placed in their new homes.
All dogs are evaluated for temperament and personality. This helps us to place them in homes that are well suited to their needs and to the needs of their future owners.
