My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Tux, the debonair gentleman who's a delightful mix of puppy charm and 9 years of well-earned wisdom! At just 20 pounds, this Spaniel/Shih-Tzu mix is proof that great things come in small packages. With his handsome looks and larger-than-life personality, Tux is here to win hearts and claim his forever spot by your side.
Tux is the ultimate sidekick, always ready to tag along on your adventures—or at least to wherever the snacks are stored. He's house-trained and crate-trained, though his true happy place is snuggled up with his favorite humans. While he's not big on being picked up, he'll make up for it by staying close to you and keeping you endlessly entertained with his cheeky antics. Sharing toys and treats? Not always his forte, but hey, he's working on it! With a little patience (and some treat-based bribery), Tux is learning to chill, thanks to a touch of pharmaceutical support and lots of love.
When it comes to socializing, Tux prefers to keep things simple—he's great with other dogs but would love to be your one-and-only or share the home with a calm, respectful canine companion. Cats? Not his vibe. Kids? Nah, Tux says he's too sophisticated for that scene. He's looking for an adult-only home where he can soak up all the love and attention he deserves.
Tux does have a few quirks: he'll give you an earful when you leave (he misses you already!) and might test his door-dashing skills if given the chance. But these are just small quirks in a dog who's overflowing with love, loyalty, and personality. He's a quick learner and is excited to keep growing into his best self with the right family by his side.
If you're searching for a tiny, quirky, and endlessly lovable companion, Tux is ready to be your guy. Don't wait—apply now to meet this dapper little man and let him steal your heart forever!

Additional adoption info

Since we make a lifetime commitment to any animal that comes into our program, we only adopt out animals to people in our area..

If you are interested in adopting a CAWS cat or dog, please fill out the online application at http://www.caws.org/application/, email adopt@caws.org or call 328-4731. For the most timely response applying online is recommended.

We respond as quickly as possible but as we are a volunteer based organization and do not have full time staff, we respond as quickly as possible.

Go meet their pets

CAWS does not have a conventional shelter facility - all CAWS animals waiting for adoption are in foster homes. The number of animals we can help find new homes for is closely linked to how many CAWS foster homes are available. For additional information regarding how you, too, can become a foster, please see our fostering page located on our web site!

CAWS volunteers bring cats and dogs to the PetSmart near 2100 South and 300 West in South Salt Lake on the third and fourth weekends of each month

We are also at the Sugarhouse PETCO (1165 Wilmington Ave) the first Saturday of each month.
