My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Nikki’s ready for Hikes, Fetch, and Endless Cuddles!

Hey there! I’m Nikki, a 2.5-year-old, 44-pound Terrier Mix, and I’m here to steal your heart with my fun-loving personality and pawsitive energy.

I’ve got a zest for life that’s hard to match! I love going on hikes, playing fetch, and enjoying afternoon walks. Don’t let my athletic side fool you, though—I’m also a big cuddler. I’m incredibly sweet at heart and never want to disappoint. Any mistakes I make are purely from not knowing better, but I’m a quick learner and very food motivated.

I’m fully trained—bathroom, house, and leash—so I’m ready for all the adventures you can throw my way. I’m spayed and kid-friendly, making me the perfect companion for an active family. I should mention, though, that I’m not a fan of other dogs or cats, so I’d do best as your one and only fur baby.

One of my special talents is destroying dog toys, so be prepared to keep me entertained! I have mild separation anxiety, meaning I might whimper a bit when you leave, but I settle down quickly.

I love a social and engaging environment—the more people around, the bigger my smile! While I’m not good with other dogs, I respond well to high energy and lots of exercise. After a nice hike, I love laying on cool tiles to rest.

Why should you adopt me? Well, I’m a fantastic dog who can be trained to be a loyal companion. I’m extremely responsive to attention and thrive when I’m with my people. My foster parent says I never leave their side, and I’ve already learned some simple commands. Give me love and patience, and I’ll give you respect and loyalty in return. I just request that I must be the only dog in the house.

My adoption fee is $350 and that includes spaying/neutering, shots, and microchip. If you want to take me home, please fill out the form on the website here: https://theanimalpad.org/adoption-application/

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We prioritize local San Diego applicants. We do not provide transport of dogs to other states, and don't allow the dogs to fly in the cargo of the plane.
Our adoption process from start to finish, involves 3 standard forms, and 2 situational.
All potential applicants must be capable of providing their adopted pet with routine and emergency veterinary care (yearly health checks, keeping vaccinations current, heartworm/flea preventatives, and immediate care in the event the animal is sick or injured). They are required to license their pet, and keep an identification tag on their pet at all times.
All applicants must agree to a home check, and provide us with a veterinary reference, or personal references if you're a first-time pet owner. Our home checks are not to invade the privacy of the applicants, we do this to ensure the pet is going into a safe home. We do not discriminate against non-homeowners, or those living in apartments, condos, or otherwise.
Our adoption fees vary from $150-1000.
Applicants must agree in writing that if for any reason they are unable to keep or care for their pet, the pet will be surrendered back to our rescue and not re-homed, turned over to a shelter, pound, rescue, new owner, sold, etc.

More about this rescue

Overview
The Animal Pad is a nonprofit, all-breed dog rescue devoted to saving the lives of dogs facing euthanasia at high kill animal shelters and off the streets of Mexico. We rescue, rehabilitate, and re-home locally.

We are dedicated to animal advocacy, and educating dog owners on the importance of spaying and neutering their pets. We are a foster based rescue, and rely heavily on the kindness and generosity of the amazing people who make donations toward the rescue and care of the dogs we save.

We are always looking for adopters, fosters, donations, volunteers, etc.. Please let us know if you would like to get involved by contacting us at one of the email addresses found below.
