My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Buttons, a 2.5-year-old French Bulldog with striking hazel eyes that shine with curiosity and a hint of mischief. Her gorgeous blue coat with tan points complements her expressive eyes, making her truly one of a kind. Weighing in at 27 pounds, Buttons is one of the larger girls from the group, but she carries herself with a gentle grace that is endearing and sweet. Buttons joined the “freedom squad” along with nine other French Bulldogs from a puppy mill release, and she’s been on a journey of discovery and recovery ever since.

Buttons started her new life timid and scared, often shaking around new people. However, she has shown remarkable courage by gradually coming out of her crate on her own and exploring her surroundings. She loves outdoor time, especially running and jumping in the baby pools and chasing her foster siblings around the yard. Despite her initial fear, Buttons has learned her name quickly and discovered the joy of treats, which have become a tasty reward she eagerly anticipates.

Upon arrival, Buttons was diagnosed with Giardia, a common issue in rescues from puppy mills or breeder surrenders. She has been treated for the condition and is recovering well. Buttons has also been curbed from eating her own feces, a behavior likely stemming from her unfamiliarity with proper nutrition. Keeping her well-fed has been key to her progress. Initially, she had trouble differentiating between food and other objects, as she was accustomed to eating off the floor. Thankfully, she is now learning to enjoy meals properly.

Buttons is making great strides in her foster home. She has a delightful personality, often looking up with her big, expressive eyes and a tentative smile that emerges as she gains confidence. Once she becomes familiar with someone, she shows her affectionate side, coming in for cuddles. Friendly with all animals, Buttons finds comfort and security in the company of her foster siblings, who have helped guide her through this new chapter of life. She is used to the freedom of running in a pack rather than being confined to a crate, though she does well in her crate at night and is even starting to enjoy sleeping on her dog bed. This girl is still working on potty training and is making small strides, so it will have to continue in her final home.

Buttons needs a loving, patient home that can provide consistency and a stable schedule. Transition does stress her out and it will take her a week or so to possibly come out of her shell. She has already shown great progress and will continue to thrive with a family that offers plenty of love and gentle guidance. With her gentle nature and affinity for other animals, Buttons would do well in a household with other pets. Her new family should be ready to continue her journey of building trust and confidence in humans, helping her fully blossom into the happy, secure dog she is meant to be. If you’re looking for a loving, resilient companion with a heart full of potential, Buttons could be the perfect addition to your home. Vaccinated, microchipped, spay, and vet cleared.
