My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

WHAT IS YOUR NAME?
Hi! I am Poppy!

ARE YOU A GIRL OR BOY?
I am a girl.

HOW OLD ARE YOU?
I am around 1.5 years old as of summer 2024.

WHAT BREED ARE YOU?
I am a French Bulldog.

HOW MUCH DO YOU WEIGH?
I am a fit and fun 28 pounds.

WHAT DO YOU LOOK LIKE?
I am a stocky little nugget with a fawn coat plus a lilac muzzle and fancy eyeliner.

WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO EAT?
Oh, I eat just about EVERYTHING! But foster mom says I should stick to my kibble to keep my girlish figure. I love to snack on watermelon, blueberries and chicken, too!

WHAT KIND OF PERSONALITY DO YOU HAVE?
I am a gentle, playful lady. I like to wrestle with other dogs and chase things that squeak. I am a gold star napper and supervisor of my foster humans big and small.

DESCRIBE YOUR PERFECT DAY:
I get released from my kennel and must get scratches before I go out to potty. Breakfast and a perimeter check of the yard, and then I go wake up the small humans with kisses and wiggles. After all that hard work it is time to nap. I supervise every move my foster mom makes while working from home. I know she takes a few unsanctioned breaks, but she bought my silence with letting me sleep under her feet all day. We all eat dinner, and I work on my leash manners before retiring to bed for the night. My favorite days are spent at the beach. I don't like the water, but I love the cool air and sunshine and smells. Boy, that sounds like a perfect day, doesn’t it?

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE TOY?
Any toy that my foster sister is trying to play with. If they squeak or crinkle, it is even better!

DO YOU KNOW ANY TRICKS?
Nothing fancy, but I have learned the basics pretty quickly.

WHAT SCARES YOU?
The broom and mop are definitely mortal enemies. Can you blame me, though? And I’m not a fan of being alone and raised voices.

HAVE YOU BEEN AROUND CHILDREN?
Yes! And I haven't met a medium, small, or tiny human I dislike yet. Babies? Yes, I will lick your toes and nap near you. Toddlers? Heck yeah, I will clean up all the peas and noodles you drop on the floor and supervise the big humans while they chase you. Medium humans? Enh, they are pretty boring unless they want to pet me or let me supervise them riding bikes and scooters. So far, I have never jumped up on a kiddo of any size. I am a very good girl!

DO YOU LIKE CATS?
“Like” is a strong word. I don't chase the cats or the chickens. I tolerate them when the cats come and lay on me or groom me, but I don't particularly want to play with them.

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT OTHER DOGS?
Yes, please!! I will take ALL the dogs ALL the time!

IF YOU COULD BE ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD WHERE WOULD IT BE?
I would prefer to be as close as physically possible to a human or another dog at all times. Second best is in the sunshine somewhere napping with a cool breeze, and third is on a patio at a cafe being super cute under the table and getting all the attention from everyone around… because how can you not want to love this face!?!

HOW IS YOUR HEALTH?
I am the picture of health. I am active, strong and smart. My heart, teeth, joints and lungs all get gold stars. My foster mom thinks my satellite ears may be broken sometimes, but the truth is that I am a Frenchie and I choose when I want to use them.

WHO DO YOU LIVE WITH IN YOUR FOSTER HOME? WHO IS YOUR CLOSEST COMPANION?
I live with two adults and two medium-sized humans (9- and 11-year old boys). Lots of other kids come over for sleepovers and playtime regularly, which I LOVE! The non-human residents include an 8-year old Bull Mastiff, a 4-year old Frenchie, a 7-year old cat, a 9-year old tortoise, six chickens, and even some fish! In my hierarchy of besties, Foster Mom is my favorite all around with Tuesday, the Frenchie, being my second favorite because we love to get into lots of shenanigans.

WHERE DO YOU HANG OUT WHEN YOU ARE HOME ALONE?
In my kennel or in the shaded dog run.

WHERE DO YOU SLEEP?
During the day? EVERYWHERE! At night, I sleep in my kennel.

DO YOU LIKE WALKING ON A LEASH?
I am getting really good at walking on a leash and I just love getting out to explore the world. I prefer my leash be on a harnes over my shoulders and not attached to my collar.

DO YOU HAVE ANY NOT SO GREAT HABBITS WE SHOULD KNOW ABOUT?
I get really anxious when my foster mom leaves me with the spare human. I am working on my confidence, but I need you to be patient with me while I adjust to your home and your routine.

ARE YOU HOUSE TRAINED? DO YOU GO POTTY OUTSIDE?
Yes! I have only had one accident in my kennel and I learned quickly that potty belongs outside.

DO YOU LIKE WATER?
I like to drink water, but that’s about where my affection for it ends. I had mange when I was rescued, so I have had more baths than I would wish on any dog in a life time. I tolerate them, but I am pretty sure they are some sort of torture ritual. I don't know why the humans subject themselves to showers every day. I supervise so I know they are safe from the water!

WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT YOUR FOSTER FAMILY?
There is always someone to play with or cuddle with. Foster Mom works from home. I have also been shown a lot of patience and kindness.

WHAT WAS YOUR LIFE LIKE BEFORE BEING BROUGH TO NOR CALL BULLY BREED RESCUE?
I don’t remember exactly what happened, but I ended up at a shelter with some uncomfortable mange and needed help. NorCal Bully Breed Rescue saved me from the shelter, brought me to my foster home, where I recovered from my skin condition, and now I am ready to meet my forever family. I would really love to meet you and come home with you forever!
