My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Figit, the leggy wonder, strutted into our lives from the Humane Society of Yuma not too long ago. At just 1-1/2 to 2 years old and 21 pounds (mostly legs, mind you!), Figit is a shy gal in need of a patient female-only home. We have found that she is afraid of men and does much better with women. Loud noises? They make her jump like a startled bunny! She walks well on her harness but will get nervous sometimes. For the best pup experience, Figit would prefer a home with older kids if there are kids in the home. She recently spent some time in a foster home and the foster mom said she's a playful and affectionate dog who loved playing with her 3 dogs. She is crated when they left the home, and will also hang out in her kennel if she needs some alone time. She walks well on a leash and is not reactive when she sees other dogs. She can be shy meeting new people but warms up to them nicely. She's residing at the adoption center and looks forward to meeting you!

No appointments are necessary and you can come and see us any time we are open. Please go to our website (www.azfriends.org) to fill out a consultation form then come and see us! We do require any family interested in meeting our dogs or cats to fill out a consultation form – this form helps us determine if the dog/cat and the home are a good match, since it is so easy to fall in love with a photo, without knowing the personality of the dog. Once you have filled out the online Adoption Consultation Form, just come in and see us (or come and see us and fill out the consultation form upon arrival)!

Please note that ALL dogs and cats are available to the first home that meets the dog or cat that we feel is a good match. In order to help make the best match, we do want all family members (dogs and humans) to meet any potential new family member.

Our adoption center hours are: Closed Sunday/Monday; Tuesday 10a-2p, Wednesday 3p-7p, Thursday 3p-7p, Friday 10a-2p, Saturday 10a-4p. We are located at 952 W Melody Avenue in Gilbert (zip code 85233).All animals are altered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, licensed (dogs). Cats tested for FELV/FIV. Dogs tested for Heartworm. All animals are available to the first family that is a good match, and if we have more than one animal who is a good match, there will be a lottery for all matches. Note that families must have come in to our adoption center and spoken with an adoption counselor prior to any lottery (when we have lotteries, they usually occur on Saturday mornings).

Their adoption process

1.

Visit the Facility and Find a Pet

No appointments necessary, just come and see us. For animals in foster homes, adoption counselors will provide additional information.

2.

Meet the Pet

We do require a consultation form that can be filled out at our adoption center or online prior to coming - helps ensure a good match!

3.

Sign Adoption Contract

We require intros with all family members and dogs (if adopting a dog), then if all goes well and it's a good match we'll move forward!

4.

Take the Pet Home

Contract is signed, everyone has met, and the dog or cat goes home!

Additional adoption info

All potential adoptive homes must complete the adoption consultation form. All adoptive parents must agree to terms of the adoption contract which will be reviewed at the time of adoption. Dog adoptions are typically $350-$495 (depending on age, breed, etc) and cat adoptions start at $175.00 for adults and $225 for kittens (also depend on age). Senior animals are always lower adoption fees. All animals have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Cats have also been FeLV/FIV tested. Dogs are also licensed per county law.

Many of our dogs are adopted very quickly, so if you see someone you are interested in, come on down - don't wait for an email response! Since an animal's personality is so much more than a photo, we prefer to give detailed info in person. Note that for any dog or cat that will have more than one family interested when they are ready for adoption, we will hold a lottery BUT only those who have spoken with an adoption counselor prior (to ensure a good match for the animal and the family) will be included in the lottery.

Adoption application

Go meet their pets

Friends for Life Animal Rescue Adoption Center is located at 952 W Melody Avenue in Gilbert. Our are:

Tuesday and Friday 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Wednesday and Thursday 3 p.m. - 7 p.m.
Saturday 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

We are closed Sunday and Monday. If you see a dog or cat you are interested in, come and talk with one of our adoption counselors. If you choose to email, please allow 24-48 hours for a response as we are all volunteers. Often the animals in our care are adopted quickly, so we would recommend saving time (and possibly missing out) and coming to our adoption center vs. waiting for a response. Unless a family has spoken with an adoption counselor, there isn't much different info that would be shared compared to what is on our website. Plus, we'd love to meet you!

More about this rescue

Friends for Life Animal Rescue is a registered nonprofit, volunteer-based, no-kill organization. Started in 1993 Friends for Life maintains an adoption center for it's rescued animals, a low-cost spay and neuter program (grant-funded), and a network of foster homes. Friends for Life also attends off-site locations to adopt the homeless cats and dogs and the organization is always looking for help. Friends for Life does not have a veterinarian on site or on staff. We utilize discounted services of veterinarians kind enough to do so for our rescued animals.
