My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Say hello to Basil and Everest – a purrfect pair of kittens that would transform your life and your home! They are not siblings, and while they are available to adopt separately, they compliment each other so well that their foster mom considers them one cat. Basil (calico female) has one leg that is orange tabby, which may be why Everest (orange tabby male) adopted her as his favorite playmate!

Everest is about 6 months old (DOB5/10/24) and he is Mr. Personality! He is VERY playful and friendly, and always happy to see his foster humans. He’s a pretty confident little guy, and loves getting love and attention from his foster mom when he isn’t engaged with Basil.

Basil is about 7 months old (DOB about 4/1/24). She was found under a Good Samaritan’s porch and appears to be the last surviving member of her litter. Like most calicos, she is quirky. She plays HARD – especially with Everest but also with anything she thinks is a toy - but can be a little jumpy with new people and loud noises. She doesn’t seek out foster mom’s love, but when it is offered she usually melts into a purr puddle.

They are negative for feline leukemia and aids, had all three distemper and the rabies vaccines, been wormed, had advantage for fleas, and been vet checked and neutered. May be adopted separately or as a pair (discount for two!) Preference will be given to local adopters and to adopters who have a young playmate companion for the kitten. We don’t think either kitten would do well as a solo pet, or that Basil would do well with most dogs. If interested in these cutie pies, please contact Holly at 865-671-4564 or hhfrey1@tds.net

We are a small, private feline-only rescue group dedicated to the rescue, care and placement of homeless cats and kittens. The majority of our cats and kittens come from high kill shelters. Through our application and interview process, we strive to make the 'purrfect' match to insure a loving, lifelong home for those in our care. We do NOT receive funding from any national organization, federal or state governments.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Potential adopters are required to complete our application before adoption. Our adoption fee varies based on the age and breed of the cat. The fee includes testing for feline leukemia and aids, the series of distemper vaccines, the rabies vaccines, wormings, advantage so they are flea free when you take them home, a veterinary exam, and the spay or neuter. Microchipping is available for an additional $45. The adoption fee is waived for qualifying adopters interested in one of our sponsored cats.

Adoption application

Go meet their pets

At this time we are not attending adoption fairs. To adopt, we ask that you first complete an application (email hhfrey1@tds.net to request and indicate the cat(s) of interest). Approved applications will be allowed to meet the cat in a home environment. Completing the application does not obligate you to adopt.

More about this rescue

Stray Connection is a small organization of private foster homes (no shelter or store-front) that takes in kittens/cats from shelters outside of Knoxville that are typically high-kill, low-funded. These cats are brought to Knoxville where they receive the necessary vet care. Because our cats live in private homes, we know them well. It is our mission to make the best match of the cat's personality and individual needs with an approved adopter.
