My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

What my friends at ACC say about me:

My history is a mystery and my friends here do not know much about me yet!

It is unknown if I have ever lived with other animals or children.

I can be slow to adjust to new environments. I prefer to take things at my own pace.

Owen tolerates attention and petting but appears fearful or stressed in the shelter. He may be a little more independent, and may need time to warm up to his new home. We recommend that this cat go to a home with experienced cat parents.

My foster writes: Meet Owen, a charming shelter cat who is looking for a place to call home. Owen has a quiet, observant nature and may take a few weeks to adjust to new surroundings. Once he realizes he's safe, though, the transformation is remarkable. His guarded exterior softens, and he begins to trust his new environment, finding comfort in the familiar. You'll know he's content when he greets you with a loud purr and starts grooming himself right in front of you.
When you take him home, Owen may retreat to a quiet corner and communicate with a growl or hiss, asking for some space. It's his way of showing that he's still adjusting, but something as simple as gentle eye contact with slow blinks will help him relax, as well as just saying, "Hi Owen." The beauty of Owen is that, with patience, he opens up in his own time, coming when called and happily accepting pets and scratches on his neck and forehead.
Owen is also a respectful housemate-he doesn't damage furniture, though sometimes scratches carpets in order to stretch. Once Owen settles in, he becomes a true companion, his calm nature filling the home with warmth. Each adult in the household will win him over individually, as he forms bonds at his own pace. For anyone willing to give him the time and care he needs, Owen offers a deep sense of satisfaction in watching him grow comfortable, knowing he has found his place.
