DOG TEST: (Dog Selective) Chief has met a couple dogs at the shelter and doesn`t seem to mind them, however he can be picky sometimes.
CAT TEST: (Needs Testing) Chief has not met a cat to the shelter staff`s knowledge.
KID TEST: (Good with Kids) Chief would do great with kids of all ages. HOUSE BROKEN: (Needs Work) Chief seems to have been potty trained but he still has some accidents. ENERGY LEVEL: (Medium-High) Chief is a super playful boy who thinks hes a lap dog. He likes to run around in the back yard and play with toys but also likes to sit right by your side for loads of attention. Chief seems to have no interest in other dogs and would much rather be a people dog.
LEASH WALKING: (Good) Chief walks well on a leash and likes going for walks. KNOWN COMMANDS: Sit (Yes) Down (No) Stay (No) Shake (Yes) Drop (No)

Our shelter is open 7 days a week. (Excluding holidays).
Monday- Friday 8am-5pm
Saturday- Sunday 10am-2pm
We ask that you come visit any time between open and no later than 30 minutes prior to closing. This ensures that staff will have enough time to assist you in meeting one of our great furry friends!

More about this shelter
We are a Municipal Animal Shelter for the City of Lee's Summit. We house animals brought in by Lee's Summit Animal Control Officers and Blue Springs Animal Control Officers.
Animals are also brought to us by owners that can no longer keep the animal or by strays that were impounded for running loose.
When an animal comes in as a stray, it is held for 5 days to give the owner a chance to claim it. If the owner does not claim it, on the 6th day it is put up for adoption or foster. During this 5 day holding period, if a potential adopter would like to adopt the animal, they are welcome to sign up on the adoption list. The names on the adoption list are contacted on the 6th day if no owner has made claim.
If there are no names on the adoption list, then the animal will become first come, first served when available for adoption.
