My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, my name is Janis ! I'm from Arkansas.

From her foster: Janis (we call her Jani) came to MN from a shelter in Arkansas, along with her littermates, Lennon and Stevie. She is the runt of the litter but this little girl is brave and can hold her own when her brother is picking on her.

Jani is a sweet and gentle little girl who loves to cuddle. She is currently living with littermate brother Lennon (who looks nothing like her and is also available for adoption), as well as 2 resident Boston Terriers, all of which she gets along with. She has an interest in all dogs and so far hasn't met one she hasn't gotten along with. She is goofy when she plays and we have seen such an increase in her play in the past couple of weeks. Jani would do best in a home with another dog that would play with her and allow her to cuddle with them. She is quite attached to her brother, Lennon so it might take a bit of time for her to adjust but another dog would be a great distraction.

Jani loves to steal mulch and rocks from the yard to chomp on but otherwise has been a well-behaved puppy with no chewing on things inside. We're still working on potty training and it is a work in progress. She does not like cooler weather (might need a sweater!) or rain, so pee pads have worked well on those days.

She can be vocal when she is separated from her people. While she's a bit noisy with that, we find that she tends to calm down after a few minutes. While she is currently sleeping in an open kennel at night with a small gated area around it, I assure you, she would be so happy to sleep in bed with someone. She is often found cuddled up to one of the dogs in our home or on a person's lap. While she loves to cuddle with people and would likely do best in a home with someone home often, she seems to have a greater interest in other dogs than people currently. With that said, she is starting to show more of an interest in greeting people.

Jani loves lying outside on nice days so I'm sure she would love a fenced yard or balcony if possible. She is pretty "chill" for a puppy and while she loves naps, she loves to play with other dogs, some toys, and chomp on a tasty bone. She came to MN very skinny and malnourished at 4lbs and 12 weeks old. She has made a full recovery but you will see she always wants to eat and both she and her brother are known as the food stealers in the house :)

We recently did a dog DNA kit on Jani. While these things are never 100% accurate, the results showed: 51% American Pit Bull Terrier, 21% American Staffordshire Terrier, 7% Australian Shepherd, 4% Boxer, and 4% Border Collie. Our current GUESS is Jani will end up weighing between 30 and 35 lbs when she is fully grown (but maybe even up to 40 lbs, though I feel this is less likely). She is around 15lbs around 18 weeks of age.

At the end of the day, Jani is 100% a sweet, adorable little peanut who just wants a loving home with another dog she can play with and cuddle up to!

Go meet their pets

The Bond Between's goal is to not keep any animals at our rescue office. The majority of our animals are living in foster homes until they are adopted. Occasionally, animals are living in our rescue office that are in need of a foster home.

If you would like to meet an animal at our office who needs a foster, please reach out to inofficeanimals@thebondbetween.org and fill out our foster interest form at https://www.thebondbetween.org/foster

More about this rescue

The Bond Between is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that focuses on the bond between humans and animals. We were founded in 2009 as Secondhand Hounds. Since then, we have rescued over 29,000 dogs and cats with the help of thousands of fosters, volunteers, and supporters in our community. Our organization has grown from a rescue to a first-in-its-class animal wellbeing organization... now The Bond Between! We continue to provide safe shelter, proper veterinary care, and daily necessities for animals while working hard to help them build a bond with humans. We also focus on supporting the bonds that already exist between people and pets with our pet food shelf, respite foster care program, and focus on social services.

We wake up every morning saying YES to connecting people and animals, caring for them, and helping them fill each other’s hearts.

You can help support us today by donating, fostering, volunteering, or sharing The Bond Between.
