My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

A generous donor has offered to sponsor half of Benji's adoption fee to help him find his forever home, so his adoption fee is $225! Benji's adopters will also get a special adoption package to help him get settled in his forever home. His adoption package includes: Unlimited free lessons with Say It Once A year of free food and a $150 shopping spree Pampered Pet Boutique 50% off an Adoption Photoshoot with Dirty Paw Photography Good with: Dogs Not tested with: Cats, Kids House trained: Mostly with an occasional accident Energy level: Medium Noise level: Vocalizes some Must have: House with a yard in a quieter area Hi, Im Benjiyour next adventure buddy! Are you looking for a playful, loving companion whos always ready for the next big adventure? Thats me! Im a 3-4-year-old black hound mix, and Ive got a heart full of joy and energy just waiting to be shared. I havent found my forever home yet, but I know the perfect one is out there. Maybe its with you? Im the kind of dog who will keep you smiling every single day. I absolutely love car rideslets hit the road together! Whether its playing with toys, chasing after a ball in a good game of fetch, or just snuggling up on the couch, Im all in. I also really enjoy hanging out with other dogs, so if youve got a playful pup at home, Id love to meet them. You should know that Im a big fan of training games. Im pretty sharp, if I do say so myself, and I love learning new tricks. Its a great way for us to bond and keep me on my toes (and you on yours!). If youre active and enjoy spending time teaching and playing, Im your guy. I do my best in a calm, patient environment. New situations and unfamiliar people can make me a little nervous, so Id thrive in a quiet suburban home with a fenced-in yard where I can explore at my own pace. Im looking for an experienced adopter who can help me feel safe and supported as I navigate new things. Once I know I can trust you, my playful, loving personality will shine. If you have another dog who could be my buddy and show me the ropes, that would be even better! Heres the thing: at adoption events, I sometimes get a little anxious, and people dont always get to see the real methe happy, playful, loving dog I truly am. But I promise, with the right home and a little patience, Ill blossom into your most loyal companion. If youre looking for a dog whos fun, adventurous, and full of lovebut who also needs someone patient and understandingI think we might be the perfect match. Ive got so much love to give, and I cant wait to share it with my forever family. My foster guardian says: What Benji lacks in confidence he makes up for in endearing goofy enthusiasm! He is a sweet and sincere boy who loves a good toy and playing with other dogs. You'll never need a cup of coffee again with his morning enthusiasm! He has some work to do to build confidence in the world - and it is amazing to watch his progress! Likes: Toys (all) running in the yard learning and playing food-based games playing My ideal home: A quiet home with a yard; owners with prior dog experience Please visit our website www.ruraldogrescue.com to learn more about this amazing dog and to see other dogs available for adoption!

Additional adoption info

Adoption area is Washington, D.C area, including Northern Virginia and Maryland. All adoptions require a completed adoption application. Our adoption coordinators will contact you soon after reviewing the application. Our adoption fee is $450 to help off set the costs of rescuing dogs in need. All dogs go to their new homes spayed or neutered, up to date on all shots, wormed (although a 2nd worming may be required), started on heart worm and flea and tick preventative and sometimes microchipped.

Although we try to be as accurate as possible, Rural Dog Rescue cannot guarantee the breed or full-grown adult size of any of the dogs or puppies in its care. Because many of these dogs were found as strays or are the result of irresponsible, unplanned breeding, we do not know the dog's exact background and can only list breed and size by our best educated guess. If exact breed and size are important to you, please consider adopting a dog from a specific breed rescue. We want our dogs to be adopted by people who will love and care for them forever for who they are - no matter what breed and size they turn out to be!
