My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My foster writes:

Affectionate, curious and caring, Dakota has it all.

Fully housetrained, Dakota can be left alone for several hours on her own without any risk of incident.

Dakota loves everyone. She came to ACC after getting glowing reviews from her previous home, one that included multiple adults, children and other dogs. She has also done well when subsequently being introduced to cats in a foster setting.

She wants to know what you're thinking and will cutely tilt her head when you speak. And she will attentively play with various toys, while also listening to commands like "sit", "paw" and "down". She will let you know when she wants to receive some affection with gentle pawing or resting her head nearby or on your knee.

On walks, she can be excitable on leash when passing larger dogs within tight settings because of her loyalty, but the rest of the time she's as docile as can be. She is excellent in the open space of the dog park, and even comes to the defense of other dogs when they are being bullied. While she has high energy when outside, she is very relaxed inside the home.

If you're looking for a jogging companion, Dakota is happy to run alongside you. You can see in her profile she enjoys running along the water and even on NYC bridges. She also is great in a car and loves a good hiking experience for outdoor recreation.

Dakota is super cute and happy to get dressed up in various outfits. She is a big fan of the Giants, Yankees, Knicks and Rangers, and she doesn't hate the Jets and Mets. She's allegiant but would be open to adopting a new team. She's also happy to wear festive holiday attire. Even without the outfits, she gets lots of compliments while on walks just for being who she is.

She may take a small amount of time to warm up to new people, but once she does, she will love you forever. While she was living with children in her previous home, she has yet to be introduced to children in a household setting since being fostered.

She of course loves to be pet and encouraged, but Dakota also really enjoys a "spa day" in the bathtub and getting belly rubs. And she appreciates her beauty sleep (and it's been working!). On a typical day, Dakota will sleep in until being woken up, sometimes even late into the morning. She is typically curled up on the couch and happy to be pet as she is waking up. Then she is patient as her caretaker is getting ready themselves while waiting to be given breakfast and go out for her first walk.

Dakota is truly ready to breathe life into a fresh home and can't wait to be a great addition to her new family!
