My ideal home:While we don't have a history on Cortez, we do know he's a young, enthusiastic, and social dog who will thrive with daily mental and physical activities. He would do best in a household that allows him to decompress at his own pace. To keep him happily engaged and exercised, we recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and fun hide-and-seek games, along with plenty of physical exercise. With the right activities, his energy and enthusiasm will be positively directed!
Good with other pets?We do not have any records of Cortez's interactions with dogs since he is a stray. He has shown playful tendencies when he meets dogs through a gate at the shelter. He displays a soft, wiggly body when he sees others dogs. We always suggest slow introductions with resident pets, and we offer a 2-week trial adoption to help you see if Cortez is a good fit with your family. Since ACC doesn't test with cats, we're not sure how he'd do with feline friends, but we can help you with tips and advice!
Good with kids?Since Cortez came to us as a stray, we don't have much information about his past. For now, we think he'll do best in a home without young children under 5, as he's still a little fearful and would need to decompress at his own pace. With a bit of patience and training, he'll be a wonderful addition to a loving family!
How is my health?Cortez has a little bit of alopecia that is treatable. Our staff will happily discuss treatment with you. Otherwise he is in good health.
How are my leash manners?Cortez is a lovely walker and walks with a loose leash. He is nonreactive to humans and dogs and ignores them on walks.
What is my behavior assessment?Cortez has been assessed as a Level 2 dog. Based on his behavior before and during his time with us, we believe Cortez might be a bit shy around young children. He needs a gentle approach and some time to feel comfortable. It's important to let Cortez warm up at his own pace and never force him to interact with new people. With patience and understanding, he'll make a wonderful companion.
