My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Katie is a 15 years young love bug. Who is sweet as can be. She is very food motivated. If there is food Katie will find it. She LOVES attention from all humans. With or without food. She even adores her canine friends. However, she has never been cat tested.
Katie enjoyes getting all dressed up. Her foster Mama will doll her up and take her all around town. Katie is the best passenger princess. She will happliy navigate any outing or adventure by your side. Possibly even napping along the way. So it might be best to not rely on her for directions. Katie is the Queen of Nap Taking. So if your hobby is napping, Katie will be more than happy to lay right next to you and snore the afternoon away.
Along with exceptional taste in clothes, food, and traveling. Katie is also crate trained, a dream to walk on a leash, and has the best manners. She is the perfect Lady.
So, if you are looking for someone, who is a bit on the slower pace, who will hobble along beside you, dress accordingly, share some treats with, listen to you talk mindlessly, take long naps beside, and who is up for any and all car rides. Katie is your gal. Don't let this gorgeous gal slip through your fingers. Adopt her today!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

All dogs are spayed/neutered, up-to-date on shots, and given any type of treatment that is necessary for their well-being. They will be medically ready at the time of adoption. The average donation fee for adoptions is $200. Puppies are $250 and seniors are $150.

The first step in the process is to complete an Adoption Application. Upon receipt of your application, we take the following steps:
1. Call your vet(s) and landlord, if applicable, for reference checks.
2. Conduct a phone interview.
3. Perform a home visit. We require, if at all possible, all family members who need to be onboard with the new addtion be present at the home visit.
4. Upon approval, a meet-n-greet with your desired dog will be arranged at your home.

We do not have a facility. All of our dogs are in private foster homes. Check our web site's home page often. It'll let you know which foster event we'll be attending next so you can see all the dogs. Our Web site is: www.bassetrescueacrosstexas.org.

More about this rescue

We are a non-profit organization staffed solely by volunteers devoted to the rescue of unwanted, abused, and homeless basset hounds in the Dallas, Texas area and surrounding regions. As we are funded entirely by donations from the public, the continuation of our work depends on the generosity of each one of you.

Bassets are rescued from shelters or received directly from owners who feel unable or unwilling to continue to care for them. The basset is placed in one of our organization's volunteer foster homes where it may be evaluated in terms of temperament and behavior. Medical conditions are addressed and all unaltered animals are spayed/neutered prior to being adopted by their new "forever families."

In conjunction with our rescue activities, educating the community regarding responsible and humane pet ownership is another aspect of our mission. This includes informing the public of the current pet overpopulation crisis, the benefits of spaying/neutering programs, and the dangers of irresponsible breeding.

Finally, our group is also focused on promoting a sense of community amongst those who are "owned" by a basset hound (or would like to be.) We are open to your suggestions for different activities and will plan future events based on attendees' feedback.
