SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS - Sterling is a lovely dog who recently came into our rescue from a central NC shelter. He had been terribly neglected and was a ball of mats. Shaving him was necessary to treat his skin and make him comfortable. Additionally, we believe Sterling has been either abused or horribly mistreated. He is very submissive and it's heartbreaking to see him fearful of simple movements. Nonetheless, Sterling is a sweet and gentle boy and we are seeking a PERFECT HOME for him. We believe that Sterling would do best in a very quiet home with a predictable schedule. He is not well suited to dogs larger than himself, or those that have tons of energy. He is not well suited to children and their excitement. He will be an awesome companion for quiet adopters. A secure home and fenced yard is a must. Sterling is a small dog, just under 13 pounds. He is neutered, microchipped, up to date with vaccines and he has tested negative for heart worms.
Our adoption process starts with your email to carerescue@aol.com or Adopt a Pet inquiry. After we receive it, we will email you our prescreening questionnaire. Your answers will help us determine that your home and lifestyle matches the needs of both Sterling and our adoption criteria. Once determined, we will set up a private meeting with you and your family and Sterling at a park near our private kennel just east of Richmond. After meeting him and determining that he matches your preferences for a pet, we will accept your application. A home visit by one of our trained volunteers is required for all adoptions, and we will speak with your vet to ensure that you are a responsible pet owner.
