Supergirl (who also answers to her nickname, Soup) is a wonderfully sweet, fun-loving, goofy dog who just wants to be your best friend. As you can see, she’s missing one eye. Resilient little Supergirl came into the shelter needing care after a citizen reported an individual harming her and/or another dog attacking her. She came in with injuries (including to her eye) that were consistent with dog bite wounds. She was also severely malnourished. But happily, after loving care from the AAC vet team and a surgery to remove her injured eye, she’s doing extremely well.
Despite all she’s been through in her young life, Supergirl is as sweet, friendly, and enthusiastic as can be. She is playful and energetic and enjoys running in the backyard, going for walks, hunting lizards (unsuccessfully), and playing with toys. Her favorite thing in the world is spending time by her favorite people’s side, and she frequently pauses playing with her toys to give kisses and get pats.
This smart girl has also learned “sit”, “down”, and “up” in a few short days. She’s working on “stay” and “come” already as well as crate training. She is completely house trained too. When she’s tired after a long day of playing, she loves cuddling up to sleep with her humans and adores ear rubs.
Supergirl is also very tolerant, which is sure to make her basic care and vet visits a breeze. She has been totally calm ear cleanings and nail trims; she doesn’t appear to resource guard with food or toys, and she’s often even a loose-leash walker.
So far, she loves meeting new humans and is very affectionate with them. She also loves our resident dog. Supergirl will invite her to play often, and will happily take no for an answer when our senior dog wants to rest instead. I do think Supergirl would be overjoyed to be in a home with another active dog to play with.

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day! For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites. For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.
Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older
