My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Petey: Your Gentle, Sensitive Companion

Petey is a gentle and fluffy 6-year-old boy who has only known one owner throughout his life. After the loss of his beloved owner, he found himself at the rescue, where he’s now learning to adjust to his new circumstances. Petey is a sensitive soul who will thrive in the care of a patient and experienced owner.

This mellow fellow sometimes hides until he feels safe and secure, but don’t be fooled—once you earn his trust, he opens up with a gentle touch and some one-on-one time. Petey adores head pets and a good brushing! He will happily soak up all the affection you have to offer. While he’s not a fan of being picked up, his friendly nature shines through in his interactions.

One of Petey’s favorite things in the world? His foster friend, Wynkin! These two have a heartwarming bond—playing together, lounging side by side, and giving each other comfort and confidence. They’d love to find a forever home together, but even if adopted separately, Petey would thrive in a calm home with another friendly cat.

Petey has a diagnosed heart condition, but it doesn’t require any treatment or medication. The only time this might be a concern is if he ever needs to be put under anesthesia. The rescue has a cardiologist's report on file to confirm his diagnosis and care recommendations.

Petey is ready to find his forever home. Come meet him and give this sweet boy the chance he deserves!

Petey is currently in a foster home. If you are interested in meeting him, please send a message here or email adopt@ahsem.org

Additional adoption info

AHSEM treats every adoption as "foster to adopt" This means that the first two weeks in which you have the cat is the "foster period." We do our best to ensure the right match for all involved and want to give the cat(s) time to decompress and adapt to their new environment. However, we realize sometimes things don't work out as expected. Therefore, during that two-week period, if something doesn’t work out you can bring the cat back. We will always take our cats back even after the "foster to adopt" period. We would hate to see them end up at a kill shelter, abandoned, or any other unsafe situation.
