My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Mirabel ! Mirabel is a stunning long haired 1.5 - 2 year old FIV positive Torbie. She is as beautiful on the outside as she is on the inside. Her woolly mammoth feet are adorable as is the long hair on her ears. She has a sweet calm disposition. When her foster parents enter her room, she greets them with a chirp or meow. When her foster mom sits on the floor, Mirabel immediately crawls on to her lap for kisses and pets. She loves to be petted and brushed. She often makes biscuits and then falls asleep. Definitely a lap kitty. She loves her cubby and lying in the window watching the birds. Her favourite toy is a fuzzy wand toy. During the night, her foster parents can hear her meowing and playing with her other toys and in the morning, they're strewn around the room. She has a healthy appetite but is a grazer with her kibble. She hasn't been around many people so will be shy at first but it did not take her long to warm up to her foster parents. Mirabel would do best in a calmer home and will make a wonderful companion. She would be fine with another gentle cat.

Mirabel is spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and vet checked. She is in good health but did test positive for FIV. There are no special requirements/needs for an FIV positive .cat - like other cats, they should just get their regular vet check ups/vaccines. Please refer below for more information on FIV. If you have room in your heart and your home for this beautiful sweet girl, please contact us here, email heartstohomesfelines@gmail.com or fill out an application at heartstohomes.ca. The adoption fee is $250.

FIV is a feline only virus that cannot be transmitted to people or other animal species and it is very difficult to pass to other cats - it is only passed between cats through a deep bite wound – deep enough to inject saliva into the bloodstream of the other cat – commonly occurring in outdoor cats who fight for territory. Cats 'cannot' pass the virus to other cats through casual contact like sharing food bowls or litter boxes or through playing, wrestling or licking/cleaning each other. Purdue University’s College of Veterinary Medicine conducted a long-term study in cat shelters and found that FIV-positive cats can live with FIV-negative cats and not infect the FIV-negative cats during normal day-to-day interaction. Studies over the last 10 years have also shown that cats with FIV often live as long as otherwise healthy cats that do not have this virus. For more information, please check out online articles at the 'Ontario SPCA', 'The United States Humane Society' or 'Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine'.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The first thing we require is completion of our Application & Agreement. It is one page, asks for a reference and requires (among other things) that you agree not to de-claw the cat, not to let the cat roam freely outdoors, and to return the cat if the adoption does not work out for any reason.

We deliver the cat upon approval of the application.

All cats are spayed/neutered/vaccinated/microchipped and adult cats are tested for FIV/FELV.
