Today I: got to experience a Dog Day Out with a new friend! I got harnessed up easily and was excited to be outside but I was pretty scared getting into the car - I did eventually let my friend help me in though. We started our walk sniffing around at the park, then we walked up this long hill and before I knew it, we had done 4.5 miles all over the neighborhood. The last mile and half, my friend and I ran down and up hills, as well as climbing some stairs - boy was I pooped out! We finished our time together back at the park where I got lots of treats and belly scratches - I was so happy, I had to unleash it with a spell of ZOOMIES! If it`s as exciting as today was, I can’t wait for my next adventure!
Three Words to Describe Me are: Affectionate, Gregarious, Goofy
Notes from My Walker: Today was my first time out with Hercules! He was super sweet greeting me, gently resting his paw on my arm while I easily got him into the harness and collar. He’s still a young guy and hasn’t fully grown into his size yet - has those lanky, teenager legs that he doesn’t fully know what to do with yet, hahaha. We trotted around the parking lot for a few minutes, as I could tell he was a bit anxious taking in his surroundings - a lot of the world seems to be new to him. Getting him into the car was a bit of a struggle. Though he would take treats and get his front paws onto the edge of the seat, he was too scared to fully get in on his own. I did eventually help him in, and he gladly accepted the support. Once we started driving, his nerves seemed to ease more and he curiously took in the sites as we drove to Communications Hill. We started at Waterford Park, then continued up the hill and walked the perimeter of the neighborhood. Again, Hercules seemed to be taking in a lot of new things on our walk - he was very curious, sniffing and exploring all over. Other people and dogs piqued his interest but I experienced minimal pulling. He does have some work to do on leash manners.
Though very good about checking in, he seeks a lot of physical touch while walking, and I found myself continuously tripping over him. Initially, I didn’t think he had any training but, as he got more comfortable with me, I was able to get him to respond to “sit” and “shake” commands. Hercules has a mild personality as well as energy level but as a young, fit dog, he didn’t need a lot of rest. To tire him out, we spent the last mile
