My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

For The Cats' Sake

DEWEY! What a soft ball of midnight beauty he is, and so sweet and cuddly. He came to us in a volunteer's car engine, and now his siblings have joined him. They say black cats are bad luck, but DEWEY chose the perfect car to hitch a ride in!

He is very playful, loves to explore, and his favorite spot is to be in your lap when you're on the couch. He can be adopted with his brother, DEWEY, or he can be adopted separately if there is another energetic cat in the home. DEWEY has met a small dog and did fine, we are not sure about large dogs.

We do not have a fixed adoption fee at For The Cats' Sake, but instead ask for a tax-deductible donation to our group of at least $80. On average, we spend $200 to cover food, litter, spay/neuter, testing, vaccinations, flea treatment, deworming and any vet care or medicine needed. Adopters donate $80 or more, as they choose, to cover cat's expenses, and help our rescue continue to treat and find homes for more cats. This flexible policy makes it possible for people to adopt more than one cat or multiple barn cats.

 CAT EXPENSES:
 Spay/neuter $75 to $150.
Rabies and FVRCP $50.
Test for FiV and FeLV $35.
Microchip $25 (adopter registers for life for $30)
Wellness check at vet $50.
Flea treatments and deworming $40.
Any additional vet care or medications needed.
Food and litter $40 upwards, depending on time of stay.

Additional adoption info

Our adoption process begins with an application which includes vet references and landlord permission for renters. Potential adopters are encouraged to visit the cats/kittens in their foster homes so they see them in a comfortable situation. In many instances a volunteer will deliver the cat/kitten to their new home to assist the family in preparing their home getting the adoption off to a good start. There are no set fees, we request a donation.

More about this rescue

For The Cats' Sake was founded in 2014 in response to a need for TNR in Rappahannock County, Virginia. Since that time, we have encountered many situations where there is no place for the cats to be returned. In other instances the cats are friendly or there are momma cats too pregnant to be spayed, or young kittens that are adoptable, but need socialization and foster care. Currently we have about 40 cats and kittens in foster care being prepared for adoption. All felines are Up to Date on vaccinations and tested for Feline Leukemia and FIV. Depending on age at time of adoption, they are also Spayed/Neutered.
