My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This ginger girl has had a chaotic start to life. Born to a colony then trapped and now waiting for her forever home. Since in rescue she has made slow progress. We believe every animal has a place despite what they choose to be. She would do well as a barn or outdoor cat. Rodent control is a tough job and I believe she's up for the task. We will continue to offer friendship and share any new findings. Working cats play a role in life as most take their job seriously. Do you have room in your barn for Peaches?

More about this rescue

Shadarobah Horse Rescue was founded in 2008. Our name translates to "May The Future Be Better Than The Past" in Native American. Since our founding we have rescued over 600 horses and countless other animals.

During the Spring of 2023 we founded our "No Animal Left Behind Program" to further our efforts in non-equine activities. That same year we brought in over 100 feral cats, 6 dogs, 3 goats and a hand full of chickens in addition to our equine efforts.

Our volunteers are Absolutely Amazing! Nearly all of our volunteers and our board members are full time working adults and no-one is paid. We rough through all the challenges that neglect and abuse brings to our animals. We do this in all weather conditions and often with limited funding.

We have a passion to teach and share our experience with those who seek it. We have assisted with several hundred indirect animal placements using our network of fosters, adopters, and our social media community. We often share our advice and creative solutions with pet owners in need of help. We often participate in other community events and even host some of our own family friendly events.

Our mission:
Shadarobah’s mission is to save horses from slaughter, abuse and neglect; then place them in loving and nurturing homes.

Part of that mission includes educating people on the plight of horses and making it possible for all people to enjoy the great gift of knowing a horse!
