I came to Safe Haven with my 4 puppies who have all been adopted. Now I'm looking for my furever home. I was very scared at first and would bark at men and people wearing hats, preferring the company of women and my puppies. But now I am feeling more comfortable in the shelter and since my puppies all found homes I can relax and be myself. I really love running and playing fetch. I am truly happy when I have one-on-one time with employees and volunteers at the shelter. Being at the shelter for so long I have gotten jealous of other dogs I see getting the attention I want; I will bark and jump up to try and get that attention. I tend to jump up with all my 59 pounds on people to show how much I love them; you could say I get carried away when I see people I know. So, I might be better in a home with older kids or just adults. I am very good at opening doors to cabins and finding ways to get out of fenced in areas, so I'll need a home that a secure fence and cabinets. I know how to sit and come when called, I respond best to positive reinforcement with a happy voice telling me Im a good girl, because I really don't know my name! Once an application is approved, we ask potential adopters to come to the shelter to visit the pet or pets they are interested in. If it seems like a great fit, then we would have you fill out the Adoption Contract and provide you with the pet's medical chart, some of the food it is currently eating, and offer any advice we can on that individual cat or dog.

Our shelter is located at 1471, US Highway 20 West, Elizabeth, IL, 61028. Our hours are: Monday - Saturday, 10am to 3pm. We can provide by-appointment-only visits from 3pm to 5:30pm. We are closed on Sundays.
