Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Gomez!
We estimate Gomez to be around 3 years old. He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, and will leave HSoP with a microchip containing his new owner's information. He arrived at HSoP as a stray and was adopted by a loving owner for about 6 weeks. They loved Gomez so much! However, due to some unfortunate circumstances, Gomez's adopter can no longer care for him. Now he's searching for a new loving home!
Gomez arrived as a very nervous boy - so much so that he was nicknamed "Sketchy Gomez" for his first few weeks here. He was incredibly unsure of people, and it took Gomez a good chunk of time to truly build up trust in someone new. During the 6 weeks that Gomez was in his adoptive home, he made a huge change for the better! He is worlds more confident than the dog we remember, and his nervousness around new people is hard to notice at this stage.
One thing that does startle him are quick movements. He doesn't like when people reach out to touch him quickly, or get their hands too close to his face without warning. Instead of being surprised with pets, Gomez should approach you on his own terms to feel safe and comfortable with affection.
It takes Gomez around 10-15 minutes to completely let his guard down around someone new. Treats are an excellent way to bridge the gap between stranger and friend, and Gomez is great about taking them gently! He even knows how to sit and shake paws when asked. Once he's comfortable with you, Gomez is much more willing to let his personality shine. He LOVES toys! Gomez truly and completely enjoys carrying his stuffies around with pride. He also likes playing fetch, but will usually just carry the tennis ball around like a reward. It's common to see Gomez sitting happily inside the kennels - toy in his mouth, tail wagging, with a big smile in his eyes.
Gomez is a very sweet and gentle boy, who isn't shy about giving kisses once he trusts you. He loves being pet and told what a wonderful boy he is. Gomez is very loyal and would make an excellent companion! He will need some help with walking on a leash, but this is something that improves over time with consistent practice.
If you're interested in getting to know Gomez, please visit him at HSoP between 2:00-5:00pm Monday through Saturday! We don't know how he does with other pets, but we do offer a seven-day foster period with each adoption and require all dogs to meet any canines in the home prior to leaving HSoP.
Gomez's adoption fee is $135.
