My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

To answer the question, Romeo is at Protectors of Animals! 😆
He is a charming chunkohunka love! This amber eyed big boy, who adores both people and dogs, was discovered last spring wandering alone, likely abandoned. Since then, he has been in the shelter system, patiently waiting for a forever home or a caring foster family.
Romeo is fully vaccinated and neutered. With some training under his collar he is benefitting from the ongoing support of the POA dog team. Romeo is a gentle giant who can become overstimulated and excited, but is not aggressive. He has a special calming protocol to help him adjust to life outside the shelter, ensuring a smooth transition into a new environment. He benefits from “working for his food” and “finding” it in a snuffle mat to combat shelter boredom.
We are seeking an owner who wants to be the finite member of Romeo’s rescue team. His loving guardian who will cherish him as their faithful companion to form a deep, loyal bond with this magnificent soul. A life long bestie who like him, values a tight close circle over loud crowded parties, enjoys exploring tree shaded trails, swimming holes or lounging together on the couch.
To meet Romeo 🐶 email his adoption counselor Marney.B@poainc.org or fill out his application: https://us06b.sheltermanager.com/service?account=poa&method=online_form_html&formid=4

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We do have a screening and application process. Protectors of Animals requires a veterinarian check before any adoption.

One of our experienced Placement Team members will meet with you and show you the cat, kitten or dog you are interested in, or will guide you towards cats, kittens or dogs that are appropriate for your home environment. We will discuss with you the background of the cat, kitten or dog and what special needs or requirements he or she may have. We will happily take the time to carefully answer any questions you have or discuss any concerns.

POA does not charge an adoption “fee.” It costs POA anywhere from $100 and $400, or more, per dog or cat or kitten to make them well and prepare them for adoption. We are an all-donation organization and we rely on adoption donations to help us continue our work. When you adopt a cat or dog, we will ask for a donation. Our adoption donation information can be found at our website at www.poainc.org.

More about this rescue

We are a NO-Kill rescue and shelter for cats and dogs.

POA was formed in 1975 to rescue abandoned, abused and stray cats and dogs. Today we are one of the oldest and most respected animal welfare organizations in the northeast. POA is here to stay! You will not find a more dedicated, experienced or thorough resource for improving the lives of Connecticut cats and dogs. We confine our focus to our home state because this is where our infrastructure and resources reside, as well as our leadership.
