My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Polo! A 3 year old very energetic border collie. He is very friendly and loves people.

He is always following his family around, loves to be with them, but needs to be outside a lot. At this time the owners are not able to give Polo the time he needs, so he does get bored very easily.

He does well with other dogs, but as with any other dog, we suggest a slow introduction. He has been to Dogtopia several times for boarding, and to day care all day every other Sunday, he did have a couple of “times out” but nothing bad. He’s never been around cats.

He does play hard with other dogs, he does nip when playing, but that can be easily corrected.

Polo can have some resource guarding with his toys, which could be handled with proper training. Occasionally there may be some food aggression. And he can be stubborn if he has something in his mouth but they have learned to trick him to get it. They have stopped giving him dog bones, that has helped with his food guarding. Polo’s new owners would need to be open to invest in training for him

The family is attached to Polo and did reach out to rehome before, but decided to keep him. But now with busy schedules they are finding it difficult to give Polo the training and activity he needs to strive.
Polo is located in Woodbridge VA

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

If you are interested in adopting a ARC Border Collie, please visit our website to complete an adoption application. Once you have completed the application, one of our volunteers will contact you to set up a home visit.

If you adopt a dog from ARCBCR, it will come to you spayed or neutered, current on all vaccines, heartworm tested and current on heartworm preventative. Our Adoption Fee starts at $200 for sweet seniors, $300 for adults & $400 for puppies ($100 reimbursement once spayed/neutered). You can be assured that each and every penny goes back into the next dog we take in. The reality is, while you are making arrangements to take home your new family member, one of us is making arrangements to evaluate and rescue the next ARCBCR dog in need.

All ARC Border Collies live with foster families until they are ready to be adopted. We do not have a physical shelter. Once you have completed the application process and home evaluation you will be able to visit our dogs in their foster homes which are located in Virginia, North Carolina and Maryland. ARC will work with you to find the best dog for your lifestyle.

More about this rescue

Atlantic Region Central Border Collie Rescue, Inc., (ARCBCR) is a dream come true for a passionate group of Border Collie lovers who had the good fortune of meeting, and befriending each other through past rescue work.

The purpose of ARCBCR is to rescue Border Collies and Border Collie mixes from situations that are neglectful, abusive, and endangering. We take in dogs from shelters, dogs found as strays, and dogs that can no longer be kept by their current families.

We provide the following for each and every one of our dogs: a loving and caring foster home, all necessary veterinarian care, including spay or neuter, and any rehabilitation a dog might need enabling it to acclimate into their forever, loving home.

ARCBCR is a small all volunteer non-profit 501(c)(3) group, so if you would like to make a donation to help us care for the dogs, your gift is tax deductible.
