My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Sweet Chelsea. She was dropped off here for a couples retreat with her partner Clifford. Chelsea was most comfortable near him and had some adjusting to do when separated from him. She is an introvert but is learning to be independent and slowly opening up to new people. She still lights up when Cliff walks by. After all, they have history and raised a family together. They are not certain they will remain on the same path. They want different things in this next chapter of life. Cliff is more outgoing and less inhibited. Chelsea likes quiet, one on one, at home activities but once she feels secure she is open to adventure. She is active and strong and could benefit from some classes to help build her confidence.
She has made great progress here.
On Day 1 she was hiding in her room. She did not want to talk to anyone but Clifford. She wanted to be left alone.
By Day3 she was willing to go out to see people. But we could tell she was not really trusting or enjoying it. As the activities continued she became more confident and now she knows the routine and might even like a few other people. Time will tell where her path leads her. We know she will find a great life either with Cliff or standing on her own. It will just take slow routine, repetition and supportive love. She is not someone that will roll with alot of new thrown at her. She likes her space and needs her people to respect her space and her process. She can be loving and gentle.
Come follow her journey. Watch her grow and learn to be brave and love again.
Will their two pathes merge toward a life together. Can they find a home that will meet both of their needs? Or are they better following their own path to true love.
Stay tuned and find out how these two can be rescued for love.

If someone is adopting a dog and has another dog at home, we also require a "meet and greet" for the dogs as well. More about this shelter

The Humane Society of Wicomico County was started in 1968 by a group of people who wanted to help improve the lives of animals. We have come a long way in our 40+ years! We have a staff dedicated to making sure the animals that come to our doors are loved and protected as they wait for their forever home. Not only are our animals vaccinated, wormed and given flea preventative, we can treat animals that come to us with mange, ringworm, heartworm and pay for animals to be seen by an outside vet should there be a need. We have an on-site spay/neuter clinic that not only is used for our animals but we also offer low cost spay/neuter for animals of the public. We provide emergency boarding for victims of domestic abuse, fire, and medical emergencies. We also have the capability to set up an off-site emergency shelter for people evacuated from their homes. In addition, we have an education program to help teach kids about being a responsible pet guardian. We work with a wide range of rescue groups and our animals have been transported from our mid-Atlantic area throughout the North Eastern United States. Our shelter is an open admission shelter and we will take in approximately 3500 animals this year. We do what we do because of our love for animals and our desire to make a difference in their lives every single day.
