My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
This pet was brought in by our Humane Law Enforcement

At SDHS:
This pet has been vaccinated and microchipped. This pet is now ready for their new home!

Why this pet is the one for you:
Several guinea pigs recently came into our care and we need to find homes for all of them. Romaine is a young guy with a deep orange and white coat. Very pretty. He may like to eat romaine lettuce but he has no green in his pretty fur. As with most guinea pigs, it should be relatively easy to care for. It will need a large enclosure - not a small cage. It will need room for hiding, eating, going to the bathroom, sleeping and eating. It will prefer that its enclosure be around its human family because it is a social one who wants to be part of the family and needs human interaction. While it may not like to held, it will tolerate it but will prefer sitting quietly next to you and maybe crawling onto your lap. It will like a buddy so if you will consider adopting a second one, that would be great. Some of its siblings are in our care. We can show you how to fix a good living space for guinea pigs. We can talk to you about their food and care needs. You will find out they like Timothy grass. Want to add a guinea pig or two to your family? If so, come and meet Romaine and its friends. They are all ready for new homes. Are you ready for a guinea pig or two?

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
