Royal As you can see in my photos, I do not feel very peaceful or comfortable. When a cat`s pupils are dilated, it`s a clue as to how they feel. Don`t get me wrong; I am grateful that a kind lady brought me and my four kittens to the HSHC. They have all been adopted, so I needn`t worry about them. But from the day I arrived here, I have felt petrified. We were rescued on June 1, 2024, but being cared for in the cattery did little to build my trust and confidence. Being a stray cat, I have had limited contact with compassionate humans. Therefore, when the interviewer lady came to visit me, I made sure I was inside my Kitty Kasa and far away from her! I am only 3.9-years-old, good with my litterbox, and already spayed. I am living with a foster mom who understands fearful cats. She calls me one terrified kitty! `Given the reactions of fight, flight, or freeze, she freezes. I have had little success in making her feel brave and comfortable. I moved her to a pet playpen in my great room. My house is pretty quiet with no kids or other pets, and I cover the playpen with a sheet, but she still cowers in the Kitty Kasa inside it. I sit beside it and talk to her every day, flit a wand toy, offer treats, etc., but she`s still not coming out of her shell (or her Kasa box). It was noisier than usual when cleaning for Thanksgiving, which stressed out Royal. She was frozen in her litterbox most of the evening, but this morning, she was at least back in her Kasa, where I know she feels safer. I wonder if she`d do better with a friendly cat in residence. Now, I need to find an owner who loves me no matter how shy or fearful I am. I am a beautiful girl, only 5.5 pounds, with a grey and black Tabby coat. Believe me, I WANT to learn to be a treasured pet. A patient person who understands my hesitancy to relax will make all the difference in my life. I long to be loved and cherished, and I promise to return that love tenfold. 12-2-24

With an open admission policy, a No-Kill philosophy, and more than 3,100 animals crossing our threshold each year, we have still maintained a 98% placement rate over the last 3 years.
This is an amazing feat for any organization…let alone one that takes in some of the most abused, injured and seriously ill animals imaginable.
