My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

AND WHAT A SPECIAL GIRL SHE IS . . .

DELILAH is lovely 1-year-old Catahoula Leopard Dog. This girl is so sweet and beautiful. Before LaMancha, Deliah was stray bound fending for herself, which was very scary, so she’s a tad shy right now getting used to her new surroundings. Delilah loves other dogs, and they really help build her confidence. It’s so cute to watch Deliah playing with her friends. When she’s away from the kennel environment she becomes more relaxed and carefree. She loves to give kisses and loves attention. Oh my, this girl is incredibly sweet and loving! Walking around the farm, she loves to pick up sticks and carry them for her walks. Delilah is sweet and nurturing to her dog friends too. We call her our caretaker. She takes care of her roomies by comforting them and making them feel loved and safe, even though the kennel is scary for her too, she still comforts her roommates. Just a baby herself at 1-year-old, she is a caretaker to puppies too. Deliah is a joy in the field. She loves to run alone or with her roomie and will often “check in” with her people by either smiling at you as she sails by or even bringing toys to you for fetch. She is such a happy girl playing in the field, hanging with her human and dog friends. She’s very sociable when she’s comfortable and away from the kennel environment. This pretty girl would do best in a calmer home who will take it slow with her, while she gets comfortable in her new home. Delilah loves having dog friends so much and would love to have a fursibling in her forever home. She has already won the hearts of all the volunteers. We are confident that you will be telling your friends, “I don’t know who rescued who because Delilah has really changed my life for the better!”

More about this rescue

Welcome to LaMancha Animal Rescue located in Unionville, Pennsylvania. We are a privately funded 501c3 charity that was originally formed as an alternative to the slaughterhouse for ex-racehorses.

Many of these horses are perfectly sound, but simply too slow to continue racing. Some are injured, but can be healed to make suitable trail riding mounts, show horses, and three-day events.

Today LaMancha rescues and finds homes for not only horses but also dogs, cats, goats and the occasional exotic animal that requires more space or specialized knowledge than most SPCAs can offer.

LaMancha is a "no-kill" rescue. We currently have available for adoption many animals that are looking for a good home. Contact us to see if we have that special animal that you are looking for

LaMancha is the only federally recognized Karelian Bear Dog rescue.

Karelian Bear Dogs were originally bred in Russia and Finland to hunt bear. When Russia invaded Finland during World War II, many people killed their Karelian Bear Dogs so they would not be taken. They are considered a national treasure in Finland. They have been imported into this country recently, primarily to assist in eradicating nuisance bears from state and national parks.

Karelians are extremely intelligent, and very loyal. They make excellent companions and family dogs in the right environment. They must, however, have enough to keep them busy, and enough room to run. They are not a good choice for small yards or confined environments.

If you have any questions or comments, please e-mail us at lamancharescue@comcast.net.
