My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

THIS POST WILL BE REMOVED WHEN THE DOG IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE. INQUIRIES ABOUT THE ADOPTION STATUS WILL NOT BE RETURNED.

Millie is an adorable little 5 yr old (3/7/19) smooth red dachshund (with possibly a tiny bit of chihuahua mixed in there.) Millie is a sweet, shy little girl. She came from a commercial breeding facility, and is still pretty uncomfortable around people. Millie is looking for a very patient person that will give her the time and space to allow her to learn to trust and take things at her own pace. Your patience will be rewarded by the cutest little wiggly butt and a lifetime companion.

Millie will need a small resident dog to model appropriate behavior and for companionship. She is the happiest and most relaxed in the company of her dachshund foster brothers, but she has been around a bigger dog and is fine with him.

She will do best in a fairly calm, quiet home. Millie flattens herself to the ground or runs when you try to pick her up. Since she is still skittish and nervous around people, no small kids.

Millie's little tail is broken. Our vet said there's nothing that can be done with it. It doesn't hurt her, and it still wags just fine. We think it adds to her cute little wiggly butt when she's excited.

Millie really shows off her wiggly little tail when it's time to eat. She loves mealtimes! She eats in her kennel as it is her safe space. She will run and jump in her kennel when you are making her food and excitedly wait for you to bring her dinner.

Millie is kennel trained and is doing well with potty training as long as you take her out regularly. Millie enjoys being pushed around in the stroller and has just started walking on a leash a bit. She's discovering that it's fun to walk with the other dogs and get to sniff all the new smells. Since she isn't leash trained yet and is still very skittish, she will need a securely fenced yard for her safety.
If you think you can give Millie the patience she needs to become the sweet little dog we know she's going to be, fill out an app at https://www.wagntrainterrierrescue.com/adoption-information.

The suggested adoption donation for XXX is a minimum of $$$ and goes toward the high cost of veterinary care for our rescue dogs.Wag N Train Terrier Rescue adopts to an extended geographical area as long as we can locate a local volunteer to perform the required home visit. Approved adopters are required to travel to Omaha, NE to pick up their newly adopted dog. We do not arrange transport, or fly our rescue dogs without a "pet nanny". All of our dogs that come from a commercial breeding facility require a securely fenced yard AND a resident companion dog, unless the dog's bio states otherwise. Please note, invisible or underground fencing is not considered secure or appropriate containment. Adoption applications can be found at www.wagntrainterrierrescue.com/adoption-information

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Our adoption process starts with a completed adoption application requiring two personal references, a vet reference and a mandatory home visit. Once approved to adopt, an adoption contract and adoption donation are required, as well as travel to the Omaha area to pick up your newly adopted dog. We require securely fenced yards for our terrier breeds and we do not consider invisible fencing safe or appropriate for terriers. Adoption applications can be found at wagntrainterrierrescue.com

Due to Covid 19, we are not holding any public events at this time. Private visitation can be arranged once your adoption application has been processed and approved.

More about this rescue

Wag N Train Terrier Rescue was formed in April 2010 to provide tender loving care for terriers in need. We are a small, all-volunteer organization made up of uniquely talented individuals who all love dogs. Several of us are certified pet dog trainers and we hold weekly training sessions for the dogs in our foster care. In addition, we also teach dog training classes to the general public and offer a weekly small dog play group for supervised socialization opportunities.
