Meet Purrscilla! This 5 month old came into the Shelter as a stray. She spent some time in a foster home with another kitty from a different litter learning that the world is not as scary as she initially thought. Staff have observed that Purrscilla thrives in the company of other kitties and would make a great companion for a resident feline that is already in the home. Her foster reports that she tends to hide when there is a lot of activity but once things settle down, she enjoys being pet, purring and rubbing against a gentle hand. Purrscilla has been gentle in her play with humans as well as her kitty friend “Tolstoy”. Purrscilla has been in a foster home with adult kitties as well as an 8 year old and 12 year old child.

Come on in to meet your new BFF today at 1001 Rodriguez Street, Santa Cruz from 11-6pm. All adoptions are first come, first serve in person at the Shelter, and must be completed before 4:45pm.

Additional adoption info

Adopters must be 18 years of age to Adopt an animal. Fill out an Adoption application at our facility, or Download one on our Website.

Please bring proof of home ownership, or permission from your landlord to have an animal.

Adoption fees for Dogs:

$195 for puppies under 7 months old

$130 for dogs aged 7 months to 6 years

$60 for animals 6 years and older

Adoption Fees for Cats:

$120 for kittens 2-12 months old

$100 for cats 1 year to 6 years old

$55 for cats 6 years and older.

The fee to adopt a rabbit is $50 regardless of age.

The adoption fee includes:

The Spay or Neuter of the animal

First set of vaccinations

Micro-chipping and chip registration

FREE Wellness Exam at a participating veterinarian

Collar (dogs and cats), a leash (dogs)

A bag of Science diet food

License (dogs)

Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter is a full scale animal shelter and animal control facility. We are an open door shelter which means we accept any domestic animal, whether stray or owner surrender.

We regularly adopt out dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, rats, mice, and from time to time we have birds, exotics, even barn animals.

We offer LOW COST Spay/Neuter Certificates to low income residents, as well as low cost Microchipping.

We also offer Required Licensing Services, as well at Trap Rentals, and we offer Educational Training Classes.
