Michele is a domestic shorthair who was originally brought into our care in 2017 as a baby and was adopted but then, suddenly returned this May. Michele has had a rough time since coming back due to being so attached to her previous owner, she has given us a run for our money while trying to socialize her! She is VERY growly and hissy toward strangers and if she gets too overstimulated she does tend to swat at you to back away. These are all signs of fear and uncertainty.. in no way is Michele trying to be aggressive.. she is just learning to trust and open up to other people! We have seen significant progress since she has come back and instead of hiding all day, she has started to love to greet people by screaming at them through the door! You may have noticed already but, Michele is extremely over weight and this causes her a lot of pain to her joints which is another reason why she acts grumpy most of the time. Her adopter will need to stay commited to her weight loss journey after adoption to ensure she lives a long, healthy, and comfortable lifestyle! Her room does stay locked due to staff not being 100% comfortable with letting people in who don't understand her behavior anedbody language, as we are still trying to figure it out ourselves. If you are serious about getting to know her and potentially taking her home and giving her a new chance at life, please ask a staff member more about her!

More about this shelter
Valley Animal Center houses thousands of dogs and cats annually until they are placed in loving homes. Majority of our shelter animals are rescued from local animal control agencies who have no more space for their animals. Even animals who have been abused, mistreated, abandoned, and injured are cared for and nurtured until a loving home is ready to adopt them.
We are easily accessible to the residents of the entire six-county region it serves. Even individuals from out of the area and out of state have come to Valley Animal Center to adopt animals from us and utilize our clinic services.
Our mission is to unite dogs and cat with loving people but it does not simply end at the adoption process. With our low-cost clinic, a membership-based dog park, and humane education resources found on our website, we want to ensure our community has easy access to resources that will help them along in their pet ownership journey.
