My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Hatch Date: 2018

Rio is an adorable 6-year-old female lovebird.
She has a penchant for singing, a chirpy demeanor, and a desire to connect with people.
Rio thrives on attention and is seeking a patient companion.
She is a little shy though, and will need loving attention to help her become more comfortable around people.
She came into foster care after living in one home her entire life.

Her mom's new job had her away all day and Rio was alone.
This caused her to start plucking her feathers.
Rio likes coming out of her cage and is a good flier.
She is not hand-tame but does like hanging out near her person.
She would hang out on a couch and used to go on her mom's arm.

She loves playing with her swing and her toys.

Rio is being fostered in Verona, NJ, and will only be adopted to a forever home within driving distance.
We will NOT ship our birds.
At least two visits will be required before adopting Rio
For the Love of Birds is a network of dedicated foster homes throughout NJ and Eastern PA.
We do not have a central location.
Our adaptable birds live in volunteers’ homes, or their family's homes,
we only allow approved applicants to meet our birds.

If interested in meeting Rio, please review our adoption policies,
and complete an adoption application on our website ftlob.rescuegroups.org.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

The adoption procedure begins with completing an adoption application and returning it to us. We will check your references and then call you for a telephone interview. While we check your references, we will ask that you review an educational power point presentation. After your application is approved, it is our policy that you visit with the bird(s) three times to have multiple interactions with them and give you time to consider the adoption and get ready for your new family member. There is an adoption fee for each bird.
