My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Say hello to Ol' Rascal!

Meet Rascal, a charming senior dog with a heart full of love to give! This sweet old fella thrives on human companionship and will be your most loyal friend.

Rascal has been through a lot in his 8 years, including an injury to his leg that has left him with limited mobility. He loves a good, sturdy walk on even terrain, but isn't interested in taking up hiking any time soon!

Rascal has food and environmental allergies that require ongoing, lifelong medication, and a hypoallergenic diet to keep him comfortable and healthy. He also suffers from arthritis, and requires daily pain management medication for this. Because of these issues, Rascal can be sensitive when being touched and handled by people he isn't very familiar with.

Despite these needs, Rascal's loving demeanor and gentle spirit make him a perfect companion for a patient and caring guardian. His ideal home would be a calm, gentle space, with no other pets or children. Open your heart and home to Rascal, and you'll be rewarded with endless love and devotion. If you've got a spot in the sun where he can stretch out to nap, and plenty of love in your heart, then Rascal is your guy! He wants nothing more than to find somewhere he can live out his golden years in the serenity that he deserves.

The society also conducts more than 4,600 cruelty investigations and provides a wide range of advocacy and education programs for domestic, farm and wild animals through its Provincial Office.

Our mission, vision and charter is at the heart of all we do to rescue, protect and care for animals. It is also the driving force behind our animal welfare and education programs.

Our Charter:

The BC SPCA Charter is the foundation that guides the work we do:

Whereas:

The world is inhabited by many species sharing a common ecosystem of air, earth, and water. We recognize and value our interconnectedness with all animals.

Therefore:

The BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for the animals of the world we share.

We pledge our energies to inspire and mobilize society to create a world in which all animals, who depend on humans for their well-being, experience, as a minimum, five essential freedoms:

1. Freedom from hunger and thirst

2. Freedom from pain, injury, and disease

3. Freedom from distress

4. Freedom from discomfort

5. Freedom to express behaviours that promote well-being.
