My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Kokomo! She’s a beautiful medium girl who was pregnant when she was found outside. Outdoor life was not kind to her! She had a lot of scabs on her so you could tell she had been in several scuffles, but she’s all healed up now. She was a great mom to her babies, and now she’s ready for her forever home!

She’s a very sweet girl if you follow her lead! She’ll let you know when she wants to be pet and when she’s had enough. She prefers to be pet on her head, but she’s started accepting pets down her back and a little on the sides - just beware the belly and paws. She loves to be combed, which is a big help with shedding! She can get overstimulated easily so a calming collar is helpful for her. She is not 100% trusting of people yet, although lately she has become much more trusting of her foster mom and hopefully all humans. She will do best with someone who is familiar with cats and can read her body language. When she hears her foster mom coming to the door or entering the room, Kokomo comes running for love and pets or is already sitting there waiting! She does not like to be picked up but will climb into your lap on her own, and she PURRRRS all the time! She also likes to make biscuits. She loves to be on the top of the cat tree!

She is still learning to play, so she’s a little unsure of what to do with toys. Despite this, she put all the toys in the bathtub for her babies when they were way too young to play with them - she just knew they were supposed to do something with them! Every once in a while she will grab a toy and toss it around or carry it from one place to another, so we’re sure with time and patience and the right person she will come around. She hasn’t liked most wet food her foster mom has tried to give her, but hopefully her adopted can find one she likes! She doesn’t like other cats, and she needs a home without children. She is very low maintenance - mostly she just wants a quiet home with a human to feed her and love on her a couple times a day. Could you be purrfect purrson?

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

We have an adoption application to learn a bit about the home our cats will be going to and the family's motivation for adoption and expectations about pet ownership. We also have an adoption contract, which includes a no declawing and indoor-only clause along with a vet promissory note that ensures you will continue with the medical care and spay/neuter if needed.

We DO NOT do any out of state adoptions except on the NC border on a case-by-case basis.

We require a donation of $120 for adoption of unaltered kittens with a PTV Contract. All kittens receive vaccine series and wormings as well as medical treatment as needed. The adopter is responsible for obtaining their rabies vaccine and spay/neuter if the kitten is not of age at the time of adoption. We can provide resources for low cost clinics that offer these services.

We ask a donation of $25 to adopt Career/barn cats.

We require a donation of at least $140 for adoption of Spayed/neutered cat.

Bonded pairs adoption donation is $200.

Sometimes we require rental checks or home inspections. We always have a Meet n Greet to make sure everyone gets along. We encourage bringing the whole family!

More about this rescue

Our mission is to improve the lives of displaced cats and reduce feral cat population in Hampton Roads by socializing outdoor-born and feral kittens for adoption into loving forever homes. We are a VDACS registered 501c3 nonprofit, founded in 2014 with over 60 foster homes.

Our heart is in TNR (Trap, Neuter, Return of ferals), where cats are fixed, vaccinated, ear tipped, and allowed to live out their lives without reproducing. We are advocates for advancing legal and social acceptance of TNR in Hampton Roads. Our unique feral kitten socialization program has a 90% success rate in socializing feral-born kittens to become loving, in-home pets.

We are always seeking fosters, volunteers, transporters, and trappers to join our team!
