Gracie I came to stay at the HSHC in March because my owner passed away. I had lived with her all my life, and it was devastating. When I got to the shelter, I was very fearful and unhappy and refused to eat. I am now 3-years and 7-months old. The staff recognized that I needed a foster home where I could be comfortable and gain confidence that life would go on. In April, I moved into a loving and patient foster home. Because the interviewer lady never met me at the shelter, I`m writing my interview based on my foster`s notes. I`m the first to admit that when I feel frightened or insecure, I tend to hiss and swat at whatever scares me. It took my foster mom some time to develop a trust between us. Luckily, she discovered that my weakness was a black feather toy! She could pet me with it, and I was tickled pink. This gradually led to me allowing her to pet me with her hand, pick me up, hold me, and have me lie in her lap. I am a playful girl and more motivated by pets and lap time with my person. But according to `mom,` I go bonkers for Delectable Squeeze Ups, which will be a vital tool for my new adopter to bond with me. I also enjoy interacting with my person from a high place like a counter or chair. I will need a quiet home where everyone is 16 years or older. My owner must understand I can be spicy but very loveable once I know you. My foster mom says I am a lovey-dovey doll, given time and patience. Oh, and I am a beautiful Calico girl with polite manners. If you like what I`ve written about myself, please consider adopting me! 11-11-24

With an open admission policy, a No-Kill philosophy, and more than 3,100 animals crossing our threshold each year, we have still maintained a 98% placement rate over the last 3 years.
This is an amazing feat for any organization…let alone one that takes in some of the most abused, injured and seriously ill animals imaginable.
