My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I am Sylvie, a 3 year old Shepherd who will make you smile everyday! I’m happy, laid-back and full of love. I promise I will be a ray of sunshine in your life. For reasons I do not understand and do not think about anymore (the past is in the past), I ended up at a high kill dog pound in California. I don't know what this means, but I was on a '72-hour euthanasia list.' Apparently it meant I would go to sleep forever, but - no, no, no I don't want to sleep... I want to explore, go on walks, meet other dogs, eat treats, go to the beach and so much more! Now I’m living the comfy life with my foster parents and ready to steal the hearts of my furever family.

I did not have a good experience in my past home, so I may be a bit timid/shy of you at first. But I know not all humans are bad. Give me just a little time and I will warm up to you. My foster parents use the word 'gentle' to describe me. I would agree. I am gentle with everyone I meet, hoomans of all age and sizes. I am an easy-going girl and good with other dogs and cats as well.

I am still learning 'word association', but I am a smart and with a treat in hand I will learn quickly. I’m very laissez fair at home, and love my snuggles. My foster parents always compliment me on my calmness indoors. Outdoors is no exception. I get many compliments from other dog parents on my calm demeanor even while on walks. I walk pretty well on a leash. If I see a squirrel, I am curious and will want to go near it, but I won't pull you! Oh, and people also say many nice things about my fur coat. I do enjoy the outdoors and I go for 3 walks a day. It’s good for me to get plenty of exercise because after all I am a Shepherd.

I am okay in the crate for a couple of hours and we are working on increasing this time. If you leave the crate door open, I will go in happily, but if you lock the crate door it makes me nervous. We are working on this! Also, if you leave for long periods of time and keep me alone, I will miss you! My foster parents are trying to help me be a little more independent. However, that being said, I would love it if at least one person in my new family would work from home mostly. I would thrive in any environment. Either a house or an apartment. I am not picky. I just need regular exercise and most importantly - your love.

Side note from the founder of ACZ - We do not understand how such well behaved dogs like Sylvie end up at the dog pound. She does not even have 'one bad bone' in her body. There are so many well tempered, kind and gentle dogs at dog shelters who just want love and nothing more. Please adopt a shelter dog today and save their life [literally...]
