My story

CATS: Yes

HISTORY:
Trapeze was originally adopted from us as a kitten, but was recently returned when he did not adapt to the new baby.

ABOUT:
Trapeze is a vocal, laid back, silly, loving guy. He loves a healthy balance of alone time, attention, and play. Trapeze has excellent inter-purrsonal communication skills. When he is feeling lonely he will meow to let you know he needs a friend. He enjoys sitting on your lap but will often gauge if you are interested in having a buddy at the time. If he thinks he needs a little more love he will reach out and paw at you.

Trapeze prefers his water fresh, like directly from the source, fresh. You’ll need to add a few seconds to your oral hygiene routine as he’ll need to grab a quick drink before you start. When Trapeze is feeling spunky he likes to loudly verbally announce his zoomies before they take place. Everyone should gather ‘round to watch his epic feats of speed!

Trapeze loves attention, he will even roll over at times to ask for a belly rub or two. If you’re lounging around watching a movie he is happy to settle in and join you. As affectionate as he is, Trapeze also enjoys a good amount of alone time, usually napping in the cat tree or watching the birds through the windows.

Trapeze is being fostered with cats he has figured out who likes to play and who doesn’t. He enjoys playing with one of the other cats, and socially distances from the others. At times he prefers to be left alone and he will give anyone a quick hiss if he isn’t in the mood to play, all appropriate interactions. He is equally respectful of the other cat’s preferences. Trapeze is also being fostered with a gentle large breed dog. Trapeze was nervous at first, but he has become comfortable with him. They are mostly ships passing in the night, as Trapeze isn’t really interested in direct interaction, and the dog is fine with that too. He will likely do well with dogs who are content to be roommates, not besties. Trapeze is not being fostered with children. He does like to roughhouse and bite when he plays, so older children would be better. He will also, likely, prefer the lifestyle of homes with older children vs babies and toddlers.

Trapeze was returned for urinating outside the box after the baby was born. He has not had any accidents in either of his foster homes since his return, even during the stressful transitions. We think he just might prefer a more predictable household. His ideal home will love his affectionate side while not feeling the need to smother him 24/7.

More about this rescue

Lulu’s Locker Rescue is a nonprofit, volunteer-run companion animal rescue working to bring to light the plight of black cats and dogs in shelters as well as the misconceptions surrounding FIV cats. We aim to lower the euthanasia rate of these animals by educating the public and providing foster care as we seek out permanent homes. We are committed to the protection of the misjudged and wrongly stereotyped through compassion and respect, which we believe both animals and human beings deserve.

We are based out of Frankfort, IL, and rescue cats and dogs in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs.
